New Yorkers: Please read and act on this now

I have been doing the rounds of our local range and shops here in Rockland. I discovered that NOBODY knew about this special Senate session slated for Thur., June 22 to pass Pataki's egregious semiatomatic rifle banning and other gun control legislation. I made up a flyer based on SCOPE's alert on their Webpage (www.scopeny.org) and handed over about 40 of these to be passed out to customers (the range had a copier for their duplications).

I encountered a few people, that normally attend NRA dinners mind you, who were proud of having signed a petition once about this but who did not seem to be in a hurry to call! G-d, what do we have to do with these people; perchance have they succumbed to lead poisoning?

So New Yorkers on this list, you gotta contact your ranges tomorrow and as many gunshops as possible, so they can spread the word to their customers. Even if you don't want to do it, email me some places to contact (just click on my registration info for my email address).

Act not, or forever hold your fire.

Von Mises, I am with you. I too know some free riders. It's frustrating. Pataki is a Republicrat, unfortunately. The power of shoveling the green around is just too much to resist.

Latest news is that the Senate will pass Pataki's bill. The republicans in downstate areas are terrified that if they do not vote for Pataki's bill they will be defeated.

They clain 70 to 90% support for Pataki in their internal polls.

Kalifornia move over, another peoples republic is here.

There are just not enough pro gun people here in NY! And plenty of Chicken$#!& Politicians.

One reason to vote in the next Presidential election.

It's the Supreme Court, Stupid!

POSESSION. Simple posession of a semi-auto gun (rifle, shotgun or pistol) that can hold more than 11 rounds (including one chambered) is punishable as a CLASS D VIOLENT FELONY.

Not to mention a boatload of other horrors.

Oh, by the way: if you own a semi-auto anything that can hold more than 11 rounds, the law makes you a felon the moment the bill is signed into law - there is no recourse or grace period.

Correction: the ban implements the fedral "assault weapon" ban (detachable mag plus two ugly cosmetics, etc.), but takes it a step farther: With this bill, you can be subject to felony arrest and prosecution even though you have done nothing legally (or morally) wrong!

30 S 265.45 ASSAULT WEAPON AND LARGE CAPACITY AMMUNITION FEEDING DEVICE;
31 AFFIRMATIVE DEFENSE.
32 IN ANY PROSECUTION FOR AN OFFENSE UNDER THIS ARTICLE, IT SHALL BE AN
33 AFFIRMATIVE DEFENSE THAT THE ASSAULT WEAPON OR LARGE CAPACITY AMMUNITION
34 FEEDING DEVICE ALLEGEDLY POSSESSED, TRANSPORTED OR SOLD BY THE DEFENDANT
35 WAS LAWFULLY POSSESSED PRIOR TO SEPTEMBER FOURTEENTH, NINETEEN HUNDRED
36 NINETY-FOUR AND HAS THEREAFTER REMAINED, WITHOUT ALTERATION, IN SUBSTAN-
37 TIALLY THE SAME CONDITION.

Translation: You may legally continue to own an "assault weapon" that you owned before 1994...but they can still arrest you and prosecute you even though you will not be convicted, leaving you (an innocent) with a violent felony arrest record.
