new york state self defense laws?

anybody know of a source of info for new yorks self defence laws? i just got my cc permit and if i ever have to use force i would prefer not to go to jail afterwords for not waiting for a guy with a knife to get 7 ft 3.5 in away before shooting. thanks for any info.

thanks for the info. the name is a refrence to my other hobby, black powder and my first hunting rifle and the only one i use anymore. a .50 cal t/c hawken, percussion. and after looking up jerimiah johnson i guess it would be a refrence, but i didn't know that.
