I can't believe what I saw on TV yesterday. Officials issued tips to citizens on how to protect themselves in case they encountered the escaped, convicted killers, already serving life sentences, in the street or at home.
They are worried about the escapee's stealing cars, guns ,food and getting hostages.
So here's what they said to do:

1.) If approached on the street...SCREAM AND RUN.

2.) If you are in your car...HIT THE GAS AND DRIVE AWAY.

3.) If in your home and they force their way in...HAVE A CAN OF RAID HORNET AND WASP KILLER ON THE NIGHT STAND. The raid has an effective range of 20 feet!

This is no joke, I saw it on TV.... do these people actually believe this nonsense ? That the police are going to be able to protect them? That a can of Raid insect spray is going to deter these dangerous individuals ?

Sometimes you just got to stand up and fight, defend yourself the good old American way. Audie Murphy and Alvin York didn't use no bug spray.

I guess after trying so long and hard to outlaw/ban handguns in N.Y. they didn't want to give anyone the impression that citizens might actually need them for self defense.
Gary, glad I don't live there.

Sounds like what the British police tell the citizens except for the wasp spray, you might actually hurt the chavs breaking into your house.

Wow, they didn't tell NY people to use those whistles, like on college campuses?

I didn't see any to police carrying Raid hornet spray either. I guess they didn't have the time to train the police departments in it use.

HAVE A CAN OF RAID HORNET AND WASP KILLER ON THE NIGHT STAND.
From what I've gathered on those two guys, bug spray won't be much of a deterrent. Then again, let's consider what they are: determined, smart, sociopathic killers. If they're in my home, I may be at a disadvantage, even with a gun.

1. Lots of BS here
2. In an interview, a local resident said that the area is gun friendly, as upstate is, and folks had guns. One resident discussed having their shotguns and rifles at the readyl
3. Wasp spray and bug cleaner are baloney. Wasp spray in an enclosed area is poisonous to you also. They are toxins that are very dangerous.

4. There may not be a lot of handguns but shotguns are a viable option if you know how to use one.

So if this is a NY bashing thread and silly proposals for defense - it won't continue.

Bug spray over a flame from a Bic lighter is pretty effective though collateral damage might be a little more apparent.
