New York Beware! Act Now!

NEW YORK
The Assembly approved several anti-gun bills last week. They include A
673, which creates the crimes of failure to store a weapon "safely" and
criminally negligent storage of a firearm; A 2302, which would prohibit
the retail sale of a handgun that does not contain a "child proofing" or
integrated safety device; A 4471/S 2590, which would ban the sale, use,
and possession of .50 caliber firearms; A 2345, which would impose new
restrictions on firearm dealers; and A 2466, an expansion of the state`s
ban on so-called assault weapons. These measures now move to the
Senate. In addition, last Friday, Senator Frank Padavan (R-11)
introduced S 5504, which is another bill to expand the state`s ban on
so-called assault weapons. This bill is similar, but not identical to,
A 2466. Please contact your State Senator today and ask him/her to
oppose all of the above measures! You can reach your Senator by calling
(518) 455-2800. A 4853-A, which would allow the use of rifles for
hunting in certain parts of the state, and A 6608, which would exempt
shooting ranges already in existence from new local noise ordinances,
are two NRA-supported measures in the New York Assembly. A 4853-A has
been referred to the Assembly Rules Committee, and A 6608 is now in the
Assembly Codes Committee. Please contact your Assemblymembers today and
urge him/her to support A 4853-A and A 6608! Your Assembly member can
be reached by calling (518) 455-4100. Finally, please make plans to
join NRA-ILA Election Volunteer Coordinator (EVC) Rich Mullin (NY-22),
and fellow NRA activists for a volunteer meeting on June 18, at 5:00
p.m. The meeting will be held at Gander Mountain in the Seminar Room,
located at 528 Harry L. Drive, Johnson City, NY 13790. Please call
Rich Mullin at (607) 757-9657, or e-mail David Decker at
deckerdm@stny.rr.com with any questions.

Remind me again - why aren't you guys at the gates with torches and pitchforks? Seriously - that's just a series of unabashed "F yous" to the people.

It's a f---en disgrace! Disarm the law abiding citizen, and let the scum of society have the upper hand with illegially bought weapons!
This is an outrage! The mere entertainment of such outragous laws fosters a very important question...What are our elected officials sucking wind for? VOTES, or the constitutional rights of the people who elected them?
Lets remember, we elected them, they work for us, we pay their salary, pension and annunity. We should have the right to fire them, not at election time, but any time we the people feel it is necessary. There are many in the wings who are willing to take their place and do a good job.
Your elected official is YOUR employee. You are his boss! Lets start acting like a boss! Start telling our elected officials what WE want, not what they decide behind closed doors!

Remind me again - why aren't you guys at the gates with torches and pitchforks?
Because there are 20,000,000 residents in NY and the vast majority of them are anti-gun. They issue about 850,000 hunting licenses every year, and most of those hunters probably aren't pro-gun past the end of their old 30/30 or granddaddy's Ithaca 37. The number of pistol permits is just under 900,000. Even added together (probably lots of duplicates),that's a tiny fraction of the number of registered voters in NY. There are far more registered voters in NYC alone than there are pistol permit holders in all of NYS. They've regulated pistol purchases since 1911 or so. NY just doesn't have as many people in their non-hunting gun culture like states such as Virginia or Texas do. I think a lot of that has to do with the difficulty in buying a pistol. Other states have large numbers of urban pistol/assault rifle/registered machinegun owners who form the politically active backbone of the state gun lobby. My guess is that NY has a much smaller number of folks like that because buying those sorts of urban/suburban popular weapons is relatively difficult or impossible compared to just about any pro-gun state.
They're lucky to keep what they have.

You might be right about the numbers, but the squeeky wheel gets the most grease! It's time to start squeeking........

I grew up in NYS and moved from there when I joined the military.

I had no comprehention of the stranglehold that the state had on the Law abiding citizen regarding handgun possession.

While hunting this past fall, I had my eyes opened.

It seems that "right Now" NYS residents are the only ones that can possess handguns, and even they have to ask the State's permission to do so.

Travel through this sovereign state armed at your peril.

This law has been in force since the '60's.

Don't ask me to get worked up over NYS residents who are now going to be restricted from owning something new.... or forfeit what you own. It hasn't bothered you for almost thirty years that you have been living emasculated...

Yet you expect me to come to your aid, by writing to your state congressmen, and then what? Send some money to defeat Hillary?

I hope that straightening out NYS doesn't require the use of pistols, because the caliber of minutemen there will need to apply for permits before they are ready.

Drive by Saratoga...the whizzing noise is the grave spinning patriots burrried there.

"Because there are 20,000,000 residents in NY and the vast majority of them are anti-gun. "

You may be right about that, but you may be surprised as well. Some time ago here in California (arguably left-leaning, to say the least) the electorate was asked to vote on the proposition of making handguns illegal. The proposal was not only defeated, it went down in flames.

You read nothing but "anti-gun" in the newspapers, but there are a lot of closet gun owners and supporters out there who are not very vocal but who (at least sometimes) vote like they should.

RANGERMONROE STATES.............

No one expects you to do anything.
Your comments are not very supportive anyway. What is hapening in NYS could happen in any state. In fact, it is happening in many states already. As gun owners, we should support one another, not throw stones.

You might be right about the numbers, but the squeeky wheel gets the most grease! It's time to start squeeking........

And so I wonder - is there any group in NY/NYC that is trying to roll this stuff back and maybe even get a real CCW bill into the works?

MicroBalrog asks................

Can't speak for NYC and it's five boroughs, but in the surrounding areas in the state, ccw's are available.
There are a fair number of gun advocates in the state that belong to various clubs, including of course, the NRA.
We try the best we can. Perhaps some could try harder.
I live in Nassau County which is outside of New Yorks five boroughs and have a ccw.

RANGERMONROE STATES:

1 year ago, it didn't bother you that you had to ask the states permission to own a pistol. Today, they demand that you ask their permission to own an AR, and I am supposed to feel sorry.

I visited NYS and got screwed. I violated the law because I had my pistol on a hunting trip.

If you live there....It's your fault. You allow your lawmakers to trash the constitution. But its OK as long as you have yours.

Last month you didn't ask me to ge involved, everything was business as normal.

Today, the water got a degree warmer ...didn't it froggy.

Don't worry, you'll get used to it.

Maynard Baker is a name you should know..

Tell him I said hello.

"If you live there....It's your fault. You allow your lawmakers to trash the constitution. But its OK as long as you have yours."

Now there's a helpful comment. You *do* understand that in states like New York, whose politics are governed by one or two major metropolitan areas, often times a majority votes leftist. This is arguably because the media, which is overwhelmingly left-leaning, can easily saturate these areas and literally brainwash the people into thinking whatever the editor wants them to think.

The same thing is true of California. If it were not for Los Angeles, Santa Clara and San Francisco counties, no one would even know who Dianne Feinstein is. I have lived here all my life. You used to be able to put a rifle in the gun rack of your pickup and go hunting or shooting anytime you wanted without raising an eyebrow. Now, no one would even think of carrying a firearm visibly; he would be stopped by the police every 300 yards.

In my entire voting life, and I have voted in every election since I came of age, I have *never once* voted for a state representative who eventually got elected. By the same token, *every single* state representative from my district has voted for anti-gun legislation. For me, moving away is not an option. Can we at least please remember that we're all on the same side here?

Tim

Ranger, wtf

I can understand how your ordeal can make you upset at the state of NY. But c'mon what's with the attitude and personal attacks?

TPAW is allowing his lawmakers to trash the constitution? Do you know his voting history? How do you know he hasn't done everything he can as a voter to change the tides....

All you sound is disgruntled - and f**k everyone else. That's a great attitude for a 15yr old... how old are you?

Not a personal attack by any means...Trip, TPAW,tim, I don't Know you from Adam.

I am formerly from Saratoga,NY and ALL of my family still resides thereabouts.

I hav ehad thhis same discussion with Dad regarding the state of affairs in NY.

Trip, I know that it is not personally "your fault" that you need to have a permit to own in NYS. I was exagerating to make a point....

Nonetheless; I as a voter in the stat of GA have absolutely no say in the local ordinances of another state. I hav e found out first hand that I cannot sway the view of a DA that has a different area code than mine.

But my point remains...you live there. Your vote counts, and your voice can be heard.

Write an editorial piece in the local paper...tell the sheeple what you tell us. The local fishwrapper loves a controversial topic...do it well and your will influence hundreds of voters.

Maynard Baker is an Assemblyman, friend of the family, and a friend of gunowners. Oh yeah, and I have video of him crushing the crotch of a Earthfirst guy from about 15 years ago.

Along the personal attack line again, I have had the same discussion with my Dad, and I do hold the voters of NYS responsible for the atrocious raping of the constitution that is occuring on their watch. My dad let it be for 35 years, and was shocked to see me arrested. He was mad as hell.

If you weren't bitching last month...why are you today?

rangermonroe,

I apologize for jumpin' on ya like that - truely it was wrong.

Whether it was a personal attack or not... you definitely seemed to talk down to TPAW in one way or another (call it personal attack, whatever, verbiage is irrelivant).

Good point, I think... But maybe he was bitching "last month", just not with a post on TFL? Or, maybe your assertion is correct and he's always ignored the situation, but now it hit him in the face like a ton of bricks... Maybe he hasn't been in the gunowner scene so long... Either way, I just disagree with your response in that you seem to be saying, not in so many words: "Hey, you made your bed now lie in it. Don't come crying to me because you've been so ignorant all this time"...etc.

Look, I guess I feel (and yeah it's just my opinion - go ahead and hate me for it :) ) that while your correct that the difference in zip code makes it so you can't do much - we should all support one another with an endeavor such as this.

No matter what our zip code, we're mostly all in the same boat. The last thing we want is a domino affect... Rather, we should encourage one another to fight, even if it seems useless.

Again, sorry for flaming you.

No appology necessary.

I love a heated debate as much as the next guy...and I am hot over this one.

I didn't think i was flamed either.

Since I left home, I can count on one hand the times I went to NYS without a handgun. I had no idea it was illeagle.

AI knew that you needed a pistol permit, but I have always had one, so "no problem".

I am totally pissed at (my dad) for letting NYS get this way. It did not happen over night. But it did back in 1968.

In 1968, all this garbage gun legislation came about. "WE" let it go, just as we are today.

"who needs a .50 cal?"
"High Cap, for what?"
etc.

But, Dammit, my citori?....From my cold dead hands!

You must protect your hunting rifle with your battle rifle.

Trip, my comrade, we are there.

The problem with New York State's gun legislation is that arm-pit known as New York City.

The population of that city - coupled with the fact that (I have no idea what percentage) hardly any of them hunt, let alone own guns for good reason (i.e. mostly criminals have the guns) - yet they get the majority voice when it's time to vote.

Up-state... those people are screwed.

Edited to add this thread link to show you what I mean about no matter what zip code we're in, we should stick together to protect our 2nd Amendment rights.

Rangermonroe.............

Just for the record, I have been pro-gun ownership all my life. As an infantry sergeant in Vietnam who saw combat and was wounded twice, I thought that I would never want to hold another rifle or pistol. When I came home in 1968 and saw what was going on in terms of gun control, and knew how important it was for a person to have the RIGHT to bare arms, I took a front row seat to try to protect those rights. Today, at age 57, I am still trying my best. For 37 years I have been extremely active in the political arena in Albany to knock down all the anti-gun proposals. Aside from belonging to at least 4 pro gun lobby's, I also instruct for the NRA in rifle, pistol and shotgun. Aside from teaching, it gives me the opportunity to encourage my students to talk with their family, relatives and friends, to also become interested in gun ownership, and to help protect this valued RIGHT!
Additionally, as a range officer, I encourage the shooters to spread the word by giving them handouts with the names of pro gun politicians, so that they know who to contact if they wish to support our cause. There are many other things that I do but don't want to become long winded.
I am trying to do my part, and encourgaing others to do theirs.
Hope you didn't loose your license to carry for being arrested.

PS...To all you guys who had a kind word to say about me in the posts, THANK YOU
Your brother in arms...TPAW
