New Weatherby Vanguard Series 2

I am the proud father of a brand new Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 in .308. I traded in my Rem M7 to Cabelas and bought the Weatherby for $429 (the shown price was $449, but they moved a little to make the sale). I just ordered some Talley one piece alloy scope mounts, which should arrive in a couple weeks (no rush since deer rifle season is over) and I have a Redfield Revolution 2-7 waiting to be mounted.

After getting rid of a 7MM-08 for which ammunition - if available - cost at least $29/box of 20 it is refreshing to see ammunition in many flavors, much of it at relatively low cost. A box of Rem UMJ was just $10.99 and Rem CoreLokt was only $19.99. I have had good experience with the CoreLokt in the past, but any advice on other good deer rounds in .308 would be appreciated. Has anyone tried Cabela's home brand, HSM? It has gotten good reviews and it can be pretty inexpensive.

Rem CoreLokt was only $19.99.

I like the CoreLokt too excelent round. Depending on how much you shoot, you should look at reloading. I live in the Chicago Area also, if you need any help let me know (PM me).

I realize it was a duplicate. The first post did not appear right away so I figured something went awry and posted again.

Weatherby Vanguard

I'm thinking of buying a Weatherby Vangaurd SS 223. Also they just came out with the series II models. Anybody have some experience with these rifles.:D

I just bought a Vanguard S2 in 308. I have not, however, shot it yet. Based on handling the rifle it feels great - the bolt is smooth, it feeds from the magazine cleanly, and the two-stage trigger is like glass.

I set up a Winchester 70 308 for my 14yr old son this year and we sighted in with Federal 150gr Nosler Ballistic tips which were very accurate out of this gun. He ended up Killing 3 deer, 80lb spike buck 80yrds,90lb doe 130yrds, and 6pt 150lb buck at 210yrds. Both bucks were heart shots and fell where they stood, the doe was double lunged and went about 40yrds and fell dead. This load was really effective.
