I am the proud father of a brand new Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 in .308. I traded in my Rem M7 to Cabelas and bought the Weatherby for $429 (the shown price was $449, but they moved a little to make the sale). I just ordered some Talley one piece alloy scope mounts, which should arrive in a couple weeks (no rush since deer rifle season is over) and I have a Redfield Revolution 2-7 waiting to be mounted.
After getting rid of a 7MM-08 for which ammunition - if available - cost at least $29/box of 20 it is refreshing to see ammunition in many flavors, much of it at relatively low cost. A box of Rem UMJ was just $10.99 and Rem CoreLokt was only $19.99. I have had good experience with the CoreLokt in the past, but any advice on other good deer rounds in .308 would be appreciated. Has anyone tried Cabela's home brand, HSM? It has gotten good reviews and it can be pretty inexpensive.
