New Walther P22--Hammer Won't Cock

 Just brought my new Walther P22 home today; have not shot it yet. However, playing with it, the hammer will not cock--whether the slide is pulled back, or if I try to do it manually with my thumb.

When I rack the slide with an empty mag, it locks back like it should. When I release the slide forward, the hammer goes forward with it, uncocked. I put some plastic .22 LR dummy rounds in it, cycled them, and still, no cocked hammer. The gun operates in the DA mode only--no SA.

Anybody out there have a P22? They're pretty hard to find right now. Any experience and advice would be appreciated. I believe the gun is defective.

Druggie,

It sounds like you've got a problem. My P22's hammer cocks all the time, whether the magazine is in or out. I can cock it by hand and by pulling the slide back and letting it go.

I'd call WaltherUSA or Earl's Repair service and get it checked.

After I shot mine, I went back to JLM gunshop (Des Moines, IA- great guys) & heaped praise on it. They ordered 2 more- both had to go back- one would not cock- like yours- & one would not feed- (which I think is a magazine problem- NOTE! Earl's has the short barrels in now! I just ordered mine.

Not sure about Walther 22's, but is there any chance the slide-safety is activated and therefore won't cock?

"any chance the slide-safety is activated and therefore won't cock?"

I don't know the issues involved, but the P22 is not a hammer drop safety like the PP series. It is only a firing pin block.

A guy at the range , a few weeks ago, had one ..Not very happy with it.Too many problems..I'd wait till they get them straightened out before buying one..In fact I don't have a desire to buy one now at all..I think they look pretty, and that's what will sell them..The new WALTHERS don't seem to work right anymore..
