Look at these new load offerings from Winchester. Copper Plated Buckshot at 1450 fps? That works out to over 250 fpe per pellet! That is a total of over 3000 fpe for the 3" load and an increadible 3800 fpe for the 3 1/2" load! I don't even know of magnum SLUGS with that type of muzzle energy! Wonder how these things would work against dangerous game like big bear and hogs?

Supreme® High-Velocity Buckshot Now Available From Winchester®

High velocity turbocharges the performance of your hunting shotgun. Finally, the hunter using buckshot is not left in the slow lane. Winchester is introducing Supreme Hi-Velocity loads with 00 buckshot. Shooting at a smoking 1450 fps., the copper plated hard shot and buffering offer flat shooting tight patterns for long-range performance.

The new Supreme Hi-Velocity loads are available in 12 gauge 3 1/2" (15 pellets 00 buckshot), 12 gauge 3"(12 pellets 00 buckshot), and 12 gauge 2 3/4" (9 pellets 00 buckshot).

If you want to see what your shotgun can really do with buckshot loads, try new Winchester Supreme Hi-Velocity. Remember that some states do not allow buckshot for hunting, so check your local game regulations before using.

I hope you don't have any fillings in your teeth - because they won't be there after you fire a magazine full of those puppies!

I have used the Supreme Hi-Velocity loads for turkey in 3" #6 and #5's, they were devastating. Doesn't mean that the buckshot will do as well, but should be a good indicator.

I wonder how supreme high velocity would compare in terms of patterns and effectiveness to hevi shot buck?? Did the supreme loads you tested, MEDDAC19, pattern worse than the regular velocity loads due to perhaps the higher pressures deforming the shot more??

The turkey loads I have used patterned very well for me. I usually wait until the birds are within 20-25 yds, but with the nice tight patterns I got, I took several young in the Fall, at 35-40 yds and they just were wiped out. I think the fact that the shot is copper plated may help prevent deformation. I was confident enough with the supreme high velocity, that I used my 20 gauge last Fall and nailed a jake. He was only 15-18 yds away though, and did not know what hit him. I don't find the recoil any worse than any other 3" magnum turkey load, maybe a little less, the weight of the shot is less than my other turkey loads. Don't know if this will translate to the buckshot loads however.
