New Toy

Hi, all.

Thought I would post a picture (apologies for the poor quality) of my new toy. It's a customized Smith & Wesson Model 10 in .38 Special, with a heavy barrel and barrel lug, and a low-overbore 3-position adjustable Aristocrat sight.

It will be used for Police Pistol Combat (PPC) competition, which has timed stages out to 50 yards. 148 gr. wadcutters are extremely accurate in this revolver, even with me behind the trigger! So far, I am very happy with it. It is a big heavy revolver, with a long, heavy DA trigger pull, but once you get used to it, it's not so bad.

Anyhow, just thought I would share.

Cheers!

P.S. it was cleaned shortly after taking this photo. :D

That brings back some memories! I've had a few PPC pistols over the years and all were based on K Frame Smiths just like your new toy.

The PPC course really stresses the fundamentals of marksmanship and is a great way to master them. The 50 yard stage (24 rounds: Strong and weak hand barricade, sitting and prone) is not most peoples cup of tea, but it can be the difference between placing high and being down with the rest of the pack.

Good luck. It looks like you've got the tool to do well.

Thanks, guys.

Yes, the 50-yard stage is the key to high scores. It has been my biggest stumbling block so far, but hopefully with the new gun, it will at least be a start for me to start improving those PPC-class scores.

Cheers!

Poor quality photo? You'd better apologize for that!

Oh, wait, that's about 100 times better than most of the gun photos I've ever taken...

Never mind. :p

I've fired a couple of 10s so tricked out over the years. Definitely a VERY different feel.

Who made the barrel?

Thanks, I don't have much skill with a camera, hence the flash reflection in the wood table. It could have been worse I suppose. :)

I believe the barrel was made by a gunsmith by the name of Mike Keil, but I'm not sure of the actual barrel manufacturer, possibly a Krieger, though I won't swear to it. I didn't actually have the custom work done myself, I bought it that way.

You are right, it is definitely a different feel. The nice thing is because it is so heavy, there is very little recoil. I am getting better at reloading with speedloaders (this is my first revolver), though, so hopefully with practice, my scores will improve.

Cheers!

venom 1956, i agree. awesome looking gun!! McClintock, anytime you wanna part w her, let me know!;) my wife would love it!!

Douglas or Shilen barrel

Checked with the fellow I bought the revolver from, and another armorer friend of mine, and the barrel was created either from a Douglas or a Shilen barrel blank; that's about as much as I can narrow it down.

Cheers!
