The SCAR 17 is a great gun. I've shot the 16 and 17 a good bit and I'd never get the 16 but the 17---that's a beast. Very low recoil for the 308... I say you might as well put your SBR paperwork in now because you will want a short barrel eventually :D

Congrats.

Change out that obnoxious PWS brake and you will like it even more.:D My brother changed his out to a AAC Blackout and it was MUCH better.

How is the trigger on yours?

My brother has one and it is TERRIBLE. Doing a slow controlled press I was never certain if I had left the safety on by mistake.:(

I am not normally bothered by "bad" triggers. But it really aggravated me.

Crow.....I guess I was lucky...the trigger on mine is very good...better than most Iv'e tried. About the AAC blackout....I heard that it was harder on the internal parts because of increased recoil...is that true? I know it will look better with an AAC on it thats for sure.

Where did you hear that from?

I don't see how that would be possible. How would it be harder on the internal parts?

The muzzle brake just redirects gas to pull the gun slightly forward to reduce recoil and push it down to keep muzzle rise down. If anything I would think that accelerating a the gun forward while the operating parts were moving backward would do more for increasing wear than reducing it.

Not saying it isn't true, but I don't understand how it would increase wear.

I have heard a lot of claims for the benefits of muzzle brakes but reducing wear has never been one of them.

FWIW, the guns the military use don't have PWS muzzle brakes on them.

I live in Columbia....next to FN...my local gun shop has a bunch of mags..FDE..I promise you he gets them before anyone else..:D

Na..I think my question was ..is it harder on the gun to switch to aac blackout thats all..thanks for your replies.

Nope. Not hard at all. If my brother can do it. Anyone can.:D

Just make sure you use some high temperature thread locker, not Loctite. Loctite is heat release, you don't want that on the business end of the gun.;)

I think the AAC Blackout comes with a little tube of suitable material though.

That FN is sweet looking. I had an M1A; and now I have an AR10. Love the 308 semi auto's. So fun to shoot and load for. I hope you enjoy it.

+1 to a sweet looking rifle. I'd love to have one someday. Oddly enough most of the time I find FDE unappealing on firearms, but on the SCAR series it just looks right.
