Meet my new (to me) Whitney Wolverine.

I've been wanting one of these for several years. A friend stumbled across one at Cabela's and sent me the pic. Since I had never actually seen one in person I had to make the 40 mile drive.

This thing is slightly larger than a standard 1911 but it only weighs 23 ounces. That makes it about the same weight as a loaded LC9. It fits the hand beautifully which is a real problem I have with many guns. Something that I like is that it points better than most guns I've handled. The trigger has a bit of take up but is pretty good.

They had it advertised for $599. When I asked if it had a box or extra mags, they dumped me on a young guy in the Gun Library. He grabbed the gun and ran off. A few minutes later he returned and said my price would be $500.

I couldn't pass that up. Now I need to take it out for a little exercise. :D

The ray gun thing is what drew me to them. They were made from 1956 to 1958. A total of 13,000 or so were made. I'm lusting after one of the 500 or so nickel plated guns with white grips but I can't justify $2,000 for one of those.

They were only made in 22 lr. The gun came with one 10 round magazine. Mags come up for sale from time to time. Numrich has them too.

Granted, it's covered in that "new toy" charisma at the moment but it handles and points better than my Ruger Mark III Target.

Olympic kicked out a cheap injection molded plastic Wolverine wannabe. Reviews are mixed at best.
It sounded like a good idea until I got a look at one. It's crap. :(

If you decide to dis-assemble that Wolverine without detailed instructions, take careful written note of exactly how it comes apart. If you don't have specific knowledge of how to re-assemble it, you can spend a lot of time trying.

Thats a fine looking gun, much nicer than the oly version. I actually bought an oly wolverine a little while back, and what James says is good advice. I probably spent half an hour looking through the olympic manual (very poorly written I thought) and ended up finding a video on youtube which finally enabled me to get it back together.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I took it down a few hours after I bought it. The gun shows little wear internally and all the fiddly bits were stuck together. That made it easier to reassemble since I had to take the parts off.
