New to the forum & the Walter P99

Hello all,

I'm swamprat6 and i am a newbie around here. I hope I prove worthy of your forum.

I am in the process of changing around some pistols. I have decided to go with the Walther P99 over he Glock 19. A couple of reasons: The Walther seems to balance nicer in the hand. My wife prefers the way it feels over the Glock. I just can't get her to shoot it. Also, I have been researching the Walter and it seems to have some nice features that the Glock does not.

Do you think I am going the right direction with this?
How does the P99 carry compared to the Glock?

On a separate note, what do you think of the Beretta Elite II?

Thanks,

swamprat6,

I will be the first to welcome you to TFL.
There are several threads here on the P99. Just check out the various forums and enjoy them.
There is one that specifically compres the P99 with the Glock 19.
You may also want to check out
Park Cities Tactical for more info on the P99.
I will say that most of the negative comments that you will read are from shooters who have little or no experience with the P99 or, can't afford the price tag of an excellent pistol.
BTW, I have two P99's and I'm in the process of acquiring a third.
I also own several Glocks.
I carry the P99.

Swamprat6,

Welcome to TFL.

I've carried the P99 for several years now. I use it in IDPA competition and just overall really like this pistol. I'm sure you will too. I don't have much experience with the G19. I have shot a few before and have shot well with them, but I hate the trigger on them.

P99

Swamprat, my recommendation is also to go with the gun you shoot the best. In my opinion, that's the P99.

I had an interesting experience just this past weekend. I am the only one of hundreds of members at my local rage that owns a P99.

I was in the store/range when the fella who's the Glocker was behind the counter, and asked me if I'd mind allowing a customer (that I've never met) to shoot my P99, because he was shopping for a polymer framed gun, and had heard about the Walther. Turns out, as we were discussing it, the fella walked in. I let him handle the gun, and invited him to come out to the range with two other friends I was hosting that day, and put a box of ammo through it, before he made his decision on which gun to buy.

Two hours later, by the time we were ready to leave, the guy in question never showed up on the range, and bought the Glock instead.

I am continually amazed how people allow themselves to be brainwashed by the opinions of others, particularly when comments are made by those people who neither own, nor have shot, the other gun. The guy at my range pushing Glock has NEVER SHOT A P99. Go figure! Here's a guy that was interested in a gun, and given carte blanche to try mine, but instead of availing himself of the opportunity, bought a gun without shooting it, or comparing it to something else. Who knows... maybe there were other reasons, like he didn't want to wait for an order to come in, but in my mind, I don't buy cars I don't test drive first, and I don't buy guns I don't shoot first.

The moral of the story is not to be brainwashed by Glock, or people who have opinions based upon zero experience.

If you have a chance to shoot both, please do so, and you'll understand why there's no reason to buy a Glock when the P99 is available. I have shot Glocks, HK, SIG, and other polymer-framed pistols, and based on my firsthand experience with many, many, rounds through each of them, the P99 wins 10 out of 10 times.

HTH.
