New To The 45acp........

Dear Fellow Handgunners;

I need some constructive input here! I am new to the 45acp., and have wanted to get an entry level pistol. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on this exploratory venture, so I purchased a Llama Max-1 Government model. Yeah.....I know, some of you think as far as 1911 type pistols go, this one makes a great boat anchor!! ;) I have read quite a lot of feed back on this gun and understand about the "soft steel" and roughly machined parts. I've had a friend look at it who has considerable experience with 1911's and is a competition shooter. His take on the fit and finish was "not bad for the money". I plan on putting a few hundred rounds thru it and see how it breaks in before I make any modifications on it. Any constructive criticism will be greatly appreciated.

Shoot as is,at the most a trigger job and ramp polish.Wouldn't put anymore money into it then that.If you decide you like the 1911 pattern then use the money to step up to something better.

I'm old and deceitful.

Unfortunately, the reports are mostly true about the Llamas. If you got a good price, shoot it and see how it works. If you like it, fine. If not, trade it. But I would not spend any money on upgrading it or trying to make it better. The platform quality is just not there, and it would be like putting a race car engine in a Yugo.

A friend bought a Llama and wanted me to fit a high quality 1911 barrel and tune it. I persuaded him not to spend $300+ ($150 for the barrel alone) on the gun. He traded it and bought a used Colt Gold Cup, which he likes very much.

Take some time to figure out the trajectory of the 45 ACP. There's a lot of variation on loads and bullet weights. Some shoot flatter than others, but they're all pretty loopy.

(Least it's not a Glock 30)

Jack;

May I ask what you dislike about the G-30?

JackFlash is this forum's Professional Glock Bashing Moron (PGBM for short). As the PGBM, it is his cumpulsion, lemming-off-a-cliff-like, to spout stupid -- and I use this term loosely -- "opinions" concerning Glock handguns. Basically he operates at the intellectual level of a five-year-old proclaiming "My toys are better than yours are, nyah nyah!!!"

Note that precious few Glock 30 owners actually complain about them, while many Llama owners have done so. Glock 30 owners (which I am not) in fact sing the praises of their firearm, while there are not any Llama fan clubs that I know of. Hmmmm. Let me think...what could that mean??? Somebody help me here :)

Thanks C.B. Even though I'm not a " Rocket Scientist ", I'm familiar with the "JackFlash's" who frequent many of the boards. My comment was, let us say, "tongue-in-cheek".
As for the Llama, I know exactly what I purchased. And if it doesn't work to my satisfaction, I'll have another boat anchor for my canoe! ;)

....and people ask why Glock owners are so emotional?

First of all, who is the emotional one?...the one that constantly bashes a gun that he does not personally like.

And, I ask others: if your gun of choice were constantly bashed, would you not get a little touchy about it?

I don't see Glock owners to be blamed for the emotional conversations over Glocks. We see the problem in the example right above. People who happen to personally not like Glocks, for some reason, see them as anathema and feel the need to take pot shots at them whenever they get the chance. I guess that anything so successful, effective, and popular as Glock is bound to gain some resentment.

Don't worry Red Bull. We Glock lovers are a tough bunch. We can take the abuse.

Ahhh, to shoot the Glock is to love the Glock... :)

What darling evil plastic pistols!

Ahhh well there's one heckler in every crowd. Look the whole idea is ta have fun with what ya got. Glocks colts, even *&*'s or any other brand I didn't mention. Enjoy what ya have. Enjoy it till ya feel like ya wanna try something different. And then make a change and enjoy that till the mood strikes ya again. It would be a dull world if we all liked the same guns and cars or houses. Variety is the spice of life.Enjoy what ya got while ya have it. Lifes too short. Just my 2 cents worth.
