I have a mosberg 590 coming and was wondering if i could get some info on different types of ammo to use in it? I know i can shoot buckshot through it, but what about slugs? What are the differences between them? i was looking at the hornady sst`s, will it fire those? thank you in advance....

your shotgun can shoot any kind of buckshots. i personally have not tried
hornady sst`s. you can shoot slugs out of your shotgun. the rifle slugs not the sabot slugs.

Your 590 probably doesn't have a full choke, most likely Improved or Modified. And yes you can shoot shot size from the smallest bird shot to the largest buck load without worry. And you can shoot any rifled slug, it will say on the box. Sabot slugs are only for rifled shotguns. You'll know the difference immediately because the sabot slugs are about 3 times as expensive.

Depending on what you are going to use it for, I would take some scrap plywood, paticle board, or even cardboard and take it out with all the different kinds of ammo you are interested in and shoot it at different ranges with different loads. see how it works. The visual effect is the best way to understand. I would try 00 and #1 buck, 7 1/2 & 8 target or bird game loads, and rifled slugs. That will give you a good general idea. :)
