Hi

Im looking for a tactical but practical shotgun, I would like an 18" or so barrel and a 24"+ for hunting. I have never owned a shotgun before, Im in New Zealand so we do alot of night hunting from atvs and pickups. The range would be 20-40m. At this range to hit a rabbit what choke would I need for #4 shot or so. Would a cylinder have any luck at those ranges? Basically what choke for distances do you use? A mossberg security cobmo with metal safety and trigger guard(aftermarket sounds good) Can I get an Ext Mag for this? Cheers

Perhaps a Benelli Nova Special Purpose/Self Defense shotgun.

Comes with ghost ring sights and I'm sure accept other Benelli Nova barrels. The counter-part is the full sized Nova which is a nice gun, albeit long.

Retail in my parts is around $299 for the regular NOVA and I haven't seen a reality price for the Nova Self Defense which has close to the same MSRP as the regular NOVA, so I'm sure they are close to the price.

Both are chambered from 2.75" to 3.5" and I also believe a mercury recoil reducer is available for both models if you want it. It is optional and comes with the necessary mounting hardware which goes inside the stock of the gun.

Check for a Mossberg as well, the 500 series is a good place to start.

In order to determine best load/choke combination I strongly advise patterning your shotgun at a local range or in a safe locale. Only that will give you a true measure of what can be done with your specific shotgun and it will give you a good reality check.

CHECK OUT THE REMINGTON 870. 12ga. pump. don't know what the shortest barrel is, but i hear there's a 14". mine's got a 30". gl in deciding

for all the hunting i've done, i favor full choke. keeps a tight pattern. but i preffer the choke machined or molded into the barrel itself than the screw-on garbage.
