New to me Winchester 62A, minor issue

Recently acquired my uncle's Winchester 62A pump 22 rifle that he bought new as a teenager, somewhere around 1948, he thinks.

It appears to be relatively lightly used. He hadn't shot it for about 20 years, so I cleaned and oiled it and have run around 250 LR rounds through it. Seems to cycle like a champ, and is very, very accruate. (It makes me look like a better shooter than I am LOL) I am seriously loving this rifle.

The only issue seems to be that the inner magazine tube comes loose and backs out a bit after 4 or 5 shots, and I have to reach out and re-seat it before continuing.

Do i need a new magazine spring, or is there some other fix?

Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Vividia,

If it's feeding properly, I'm not sure the magazine spring is your issue, though a new one from Nurmrich might not hurt.

If I recall correctly, with the older Winchester pumps one secured the inner magazine tube by inserting it all the way, indexing a small stud near the end of the inner tube into a notch in the end of the outer tube, then turning it 90 degrees.

It sounds to me like your issue may be a failure of the inner tube to engage the notch all the way. This could be because the stud is worn or missing, or the notch is worn or damaged.

If the stud and notch are engaging correctly, then your problem may lie in the spring. It's conceivable that the inner tube is turning and backing out due to recoil or motion generated by working the pump action. A stronger spring might help.

I guess my first approach would be to examine the magazine tube notch/stud arrangement, then go from there.
