Picked up a used savage 11 in. 223 Remington today. It has a Nikon monarch 3 s f 4-16x42 MIL dot optic and after removing the stock discovered a riflemen basix trigger. The rifle has top bolt release and round receiver. The trigger was poorly adjusted and the ring screws were loose at the bases. It does not appear to have been fired much of at all because none of the coating is worm in the reciever. Paid 459.00 out the door

Also picked up my first Leopold
Vari x 2 3-9x40.
Will try to post pics and give range report

Sounds like a good deal on the rifle, trigger, and scope. While not loved by everyone, Nikon makes quality scopes.

I have a Rifle Basix trigger on my long range 260. It's a Savage 10 action semi-custom. I got it to a light, crisp break and was really happy with it. After not many shots, (maybe 200-300 including dry firing for practice) one of the metal edges rounded off slightly and the trigger became unsafe to use. I took it apart and put it back together. It's safe to use, but has creep and has a heavier pull weight now. No problems since then, but I'm disappointed the trigger didn't hold up all that well. I just upgraded the scope, which was the last piece of the puzzle so I may look at replacing the trigger with something better.

At any rate, hopefully you'll never have any problems but I'd be extra vigilant with safety when firing with that trigger especially at first.

I also once had a Rifle Basics drop in trigger for a savage 16. I had a very similar problem with the bearing surfaces not holding up. Probably around 400 shots before it gave out.

I put the original accutrigger back in and fired nearly 1500 shots before I sold it, Never had a lick of trouble with the accutrigger. If you end up buying another trigger. I recommend a Timney, or Jewel Trigger. Or a replacement accutrigger. (cheaper)

That being said..... That's a pretty good deal you got there. I very much love the savage action. I also very much like Nikon Optics. (Preference to Bushnell and Nightforce)..

That rifle in a .223 should be a real tack driver. Nice haul!!

I will keep n eye out for trigger issues and try to get out and shoot it, but right now it's deer season and temps near 30

Wanted to get a heavy barrel but couldn't pass it up. I've really been impressed with Nikon glass even the lower end buckmaster 2s had 2 4-12 x40 real clear for its price range.

If this rifle shoots as well as my axis 2 in 223 I'll be really happy.

You got a great deal with that trigger and scope. They are great rifles. They are actually one of my favorite rifles for hunting. I've yet to shoot one that wouldn't shoot sub moa with handloads. I've tried several higher end rifles that certainly look better, but I've yet to find one that has shot as well out of the box as the Savage numbered series. So I always end up back at the Savage.

One other great thing about Savage is the customer service. Anytime I've needed anything, they have been willing to send it out to me asap.

With the exception of my axis 2, a rem 700 sps and a win 670 all of my center fire rifles have been savage 11,111, 10 or 110 since mid 90s. Only had one that was a problem, but the problem was me. Bought a 7 my mag too soon after shoulder surgery. Didn't have it long.

I have a model 7 on Remmys list , it is getting a Timmney this winter
