New (To Me) S&W 5906 TSW

Well, over the years I've thought about picking up a 3rd Gen S&W. While I own, and have owned, a lot of classic pistols (think Hi Power, CZ-75, Beretta 92fs, Sig P226, numberous 1911s, etc.), I've never pulled the trigger per say on an older Smith. In my younger days they seemed like a fairly pedestrian-looking "80's Wonder 9", but I've always wanted to try one out. I do remember thumbing through Shooting Times when the 3rd Gen designs first came out as a young high school lad, wishing I could own one some day. Well, some day arrived.

This is a 5906 TSW, what I understand to be one of the more desirable 5906 variants. I picked it up used from a shop out east and just got it in and cleaned up today. It's a heavy little brick, weighing in at 38.08 oz unloaded. Trigger pull is nice and crisp at 5 lbs in SA, and the DA pull is extremely smooth (although it does exhibit a bit of stacking and let off at the end). I'll be anxious to get this out to the range on Saturday!

Any other 5906 TSW owners out there want to share their experiences with this pistol or provide insight into "quirks" or things I should be aware of? Those who were born later than my firingline.com join date may not get too excited about this, but I'm pretty pleased at its condition and am anxious to see if it's a shooter!

You sir, have stepped your foot onto a slippery slope. Do not - I repeat, Do not take it to the range. Or, you may well end up like this:

Please PM me if you'd like to rid yourself of it. :D

Thanks. Mine was an LE trade in and I snagged it off GB last week. The same place is still selling them (they will come up if you search for 5906 TSW).

Nice examples of great firearms, regardless of how good they are, the S&W M&P’s do not fill the void left by the demise of the 3rd Gen S&W guns!

Had a chance to take it to the range. Trigger is nice, but a little heavier break in SA than I am accustomed to. I'll get used to it, will just take a bit of time. Fun little range gun!
