New to me Glock 10 mm range report

Bought the gen 3 SF yesterday along with 3 boxes of PMC 200 gr fmj tc. Finally went out around 3:00 when the temperature hit a balmy 24 degrees. : )

This is my first Glock ever so there's a bit of learning to do. I probably should have started closer in, but I wanted to get a comparison to what I already know I can do with my magnum blackhawks--so I set up at 25 yds. Shooting off of irons is a challenge for me with any weapon since I'm near-sighted so both front and rear sites are blurred. I only brought one box of 50 rounds--with my blackhawks that would last me 1 to 2 hours; unfortunately I had forgotten that acp's like to do what they do best--and that's get multiple shots off quickly into the target. All 50 rounds were gone in about 10 minutes.

It took me the first thirty to 40 shots to start to get an acceptable-performing grip and trigger sequence (I'm not an acp guy, so a lot of the problem is me). The trigger set-up is not nearly as easy to use as the XD's IMO, it seems to have an exceedingly long take-up and getting the break requires enough force that it's easily transfered to the grip in the form of pulling the shot--which of course I was doing most of the time. I'm guessing the reason for this is the lack of any real safety other than the trigger blade safety, so all the safety function has to be incorporated into the trigger itself.

From everything I had read I was anticipating quite a kick, but recoil was negligible--I'm pretty sure most of my initial targeting problems were due to over-gripping the gun and anticipating a pounding--it simply never happened. The PMC 200 gr I believe are mid-range power loads--but IMO did not come close to the recoil I get from even mild 41 mag loads, more like a snappy 9mm. Once I relaxed my grip and let the gun do what it wanted to after firing, my groups immediately started tightening up but by the time I figured that out I was down to only a few rounds.

To sum the day up--I did not shoot very well; but the last few shots the gun let me know that it could be very accurate with the right technique--so I'm excited about better shooting ahead. : )

You get a 20 or 29? If you were shooting pmc, then you were basically shooting hot .40 s&w as most mass produced 10mm is really watered down.

Glad you had some fun with your new toy.

Yup--I figure I'll need to do my own loads to get some hard-hitting bangers--but in the meantime I'm glad the PMC's are as mild as they are since I'm in the learning phase of shooting it. I figure getting the kinetic energy up from 500'ish to 700'ish means developing some recoil (and hot loads).

It's the 20.

Glad you had fun!
Buy one of these and it lightens the trigger up quite a bit! I have one in every Glock I own...

Also, when shooting, don't let the trigger return all the way forward. Only far enough to reset. To get used to it, dry fire it, keep holding the trigger to the rear, and rack the slide. Now slowly let the trigger forward until you hear and feel the click. It's a very short reset and you're ready to fire the next round without the takeup. It will help a lot for accuracy.

Nice range report. A Glock in 10mm has a strange fascination for me. Maybe some day.

I'm glad to hear you didn't have any malfunctions in your first outing with 50 rounds down range. Reliability is a very nice thing to be able to count on.

I'll give credit where credit is due--the Glock cycles flawlessly (we'll see what happens once I start putting some hot reloads down the tube) and when all is said and done having that 15 + 1 double-stack capacity of a hard-hitting bullets is a nice reassurance in a reasonable carry.
