New (To Me) FNH FNP-45

Picked this puppy up last week after spotting it for $399 in the used case at a local retailer. Felt it was a good deal, as it doesn't appear to have much use at all and came with three 14 round mags and factory hard case.

Anxious to get it to the range to see what it can do. The grip is surprisingly well shaped and easy to get my hands around considering the cartridge and capacity.

I own a decent number of handguns and a number of 1911s, but this is my first .45 in something other than the original.

Any other FNP owners out there?

Thanks. I was surprised to see it, as it's in a high volume shop that moves a lot of inventory from both a brick and mortar and online presence in Dallas. I think it just got lost in the sea of Glocks, HKs, Walthers, and others.

Huh. I'll second the 'good buy' comment.

Maybe the panic buying is over, we can all relax and gun stores will lower their prices across the board to move product. Yeah. And maybe cheap bricks of .22LR will come back too.

Oh well, one can always hope.

Enjoy! And don't forget to come back with a range report.

I'll definitely post my thoughts once I have a chance to put some rounds down range. May be awhile with the holidays coming up.

And I would love to see cheap .22 again. Still blows my mind how the supply and prices on that haven't recovered.

I figured for that price I could try it out and if for some reason it's not my thing, easily get my money back on a sale. But I intend on keeping it. :-)

Great deal my friend, I've shot a couple of them and thought they were very solid pistols. Also surprised they aren't more popular but it seems like their marketing is rather sucky to say the least. Maybe with all the government contracts they have they are busy enough they don't have to worry about civilian sales so much.

They have a pretty strong following in the competitive scene that gives them some PURCHASES. The FNS 9c is to me one of the few more recent attempts I can think of by FNH though to make a push for civilian sales. Civilian sales can definitely help in the lean times that come with military contracts, which to me is a lesson HK finally started learning just in time to avoid bankruptcy and a lesson that maybe Colt hasn't learned as well as they should.

I've owned an FNX before and was very happy with the pistol. It shot very well, was 100% reliable, and others enjoyed it as well. Still I ended up trading it. The competition is stiff in this market.

Initial Range Report

Took the FNP-45 to the range today. In short, I'm impressed. It's a nice shooting .45, although its lighter weight certainly does create a more "jumpy" feel in the hands than a 1911.

My 200 gr SWC handloads were a little underpowered to cycle the slide consistently, and I ended up clearing a stovepipe jam about every other shot with those. Needless to say, it was mildly distracting. The S&B FMJ 230gr loads I had fed without a hitch.

I intend to keep this FNP and see what more it can do as I become more familiar with it. Here's a sample of a 5-shot group from 7 yards today (yes, there's five there even though it only looks like four). Not anything I'm bragging about, but it shows the pistol is capable of producing consistent results. I've included more info in my blog post from today (link is in my signature).
