New to me EW in .270 Win!

Just got to get out and shoot this thing now. The scope will not be staying on it but it will work for now, it is just too large and heavy to be paired with this rifle permanantly. The stock feels like a club compared to my McMillan Edge but it still balances and points well.

Actually the rings aren't that bad. There wasn't a set of lows that would work in the local Sportsman's Warehouse with the Weaver bases in 30mm. I could have went with a different bases and maybe got it lower, but I can maintain a cheekweld and still see through the scope. We tried four different sets of rings before we found the Warne's that are on there.

Yes it is the Extreme Weather version of the M70, I was holding out for a SS FWT model but it never came along for less money than this one. Plus they are both listed as 7.5 lbs and I get a 2" longer barrel on the EW model.

As far as the scope it is just not pratical for hunting unless I'm going to shoot long range. While I'm capable of making LR shots on game and 600 yards is about my comfort zone these days, I prefer to get within 300 most times. Even though I have the equipment and skills to shoot beyond 300 yards there is nothing quite as exhilarating as getting close to game without being busted. I've shot several game animals within traditional bow range, and it gets my heart pumping like no other expierence.

I just shot my new to me Model 70 in 300 Win Mag today. Nice gun, but lots of recoil. My 270 felt like a 22 in comparison.

I'll work a load up eventually all my stuff has been in storage for the last eight months. I wanted to shoot so I bought factory ammunition. I'll start cranking.g out ammunition when I get my bench set back up.

On Target Shooting is where I got the software. I like the program I just scan the targets in or snap a pic with my phone and send to my computer. Set the Terrence, pick the caliber used, range shot, plot the bullet holes, and set the POA. The software will do the rest, you can add a lot more detail than I do as well. I'm still using the free version of the program, I don't know what extras you get with the paid version.
