Hi, Just joined this forum and thought I would say hello to everyone. I am looking for some information on a Beretta 686S Special Sporting. It is a 12 gauge, 30" barrel and has fixed chokes. I am looking at purchasing this shotgun for bird hunting and occasional trap, skeet and sporting clays. I am looking for and information about these shotguns, good or bad. I am looking for a good all around gun. I believe the 686S Special Sporting was only made from 87 to 93????
Any additional info would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

Welcolm aboard.

Berretta make fine guns. I personally dont like the sharp comb on them, but aside from that, if it fits, do it.

YOu will struggle without screw in chokes for the shooting you mention. Trap chokes are tight ( as the house is 15 yards away to start with), skeet chokes are loose. You should really consider a screw in choke gun, or limit yourself to one sport...

Good shotgun.

Choke tubes are nice to have but not absolutely essential. Switching loads can vary the patterns to suit the shot opp.

Example, a trap load of 7 1/2s may give great performance at longer ranges, a cheap load of 8s for where the trap load patterns too tightly.

HTH...

According to last year's Blue Book "The Model 686 Special Sporting is marked "Model 686 Special" and the barrels are marked "Sporting"." Mfg. 1987-1992. 28" or 30"(new 1991) in. barrels, multi-choke standard.

I think I'd better go trim the hedges.

Do you know how the gun is choked?

Last MSRP = $1940

100% = $1200
95% = $950
