Brand new CZ-527 Varmint in .223rem with a 1:9" heavy 25" barrel. My second 527. (The other was a x39 Carbine.) Topped it off with a Vortex Viper HS 4-16x44. This will be my new 300 yard gopher, rabbit, and coyote gun.

Looking forward to doing some load development with some 69gr SMK's and BLC-2......if this winter will ever end. So far, I've found the lands and rolled up 5 different charge weights. The great thing is that with a .010" jump, the magazine geometry is perfect! I can mag feed this beautifully even with the longer seating depth!

That’s beautiful! With the 1-9” twist, you may have some good luck with Nosler 60 grain Ballistic Tips. They do really well out of my 1-8”, but I imagine they’d be a bit better out of a slightly slower twist. And I can tell you from first hand experience that they do an excellent job of the purposes you mentioned. They’re also one of Nosler’s more affordable offerings.

1/9 twist, 69 gr SMK, BLC2

I've been looking at the 69 gr SMK for my 1/9 twisted rifle too (sorry, not a CZ, but is a bolt rifle!) . But I've not loaded any. Finding that slug locally has proven difficult, I may have to break down and buy online.

Your choice of BLC2 is interesting, as a friend uses it as well in his 55 gr FMJ loads. Will you be using a standard or mag small rifle primer? At least one of my manuals shows small mag primers with all the BLC2 loads. Buddy Bob, uses std primers (n his AR carbine) with no complaints.

Your heavy barrel CZ, all 25" of it, looks sharp!

Yep, a good choice. But I had a spare 8 pounder of BLC-2, so I thought I'd use that instead of Varget. I use the BLC-2 for my gas guns.

Slight hiccup with postimage's hosting site code. Here's the pictures again from above

I was out today doing some load testing, barrel break-in and scope zeroing. Found a really decent charge weight, of the five I rolled up, at 26.3gr of BLC-2. The rifle likes the .010" jump too. I managed under 3/8" at 102 yards and the speed was 2970fps. I am going to try one more charge of 26.6gr and compare the two.

So far, the rifle has potential!
