A new shipment of Steyrs just hit the U.S. GSI said that last week they shot a thousand rounds each through two new pistols. They work flawlessly and eject perfectly now. Yep, I'm getting one to see it with my own eyes.

Pete,
Thanks for the update. Please keep me posted on the new versions, as I really want the m40.It fit my hand like a glove & I prefer the added measure of safety the steyr offers over the glock, not to mention the fully supported chamber & the even lower bore axis.
That being said, I'm not willing to sacrifice the glock's reliability, no matter how much I like this gun. When these pistols start demonstrating that kind of dependability, then I'll switch.Pete, when you test your new pistol, please post the serial #.Again, thanks for the new & promising info. (long shot!)

The M357 has been pushed out another 30 to 60 days.

These new Styers did have an internal change made. I'm still trying to get the facts. Whatever they did, it works!

Got an M9 for my wife about a month ago... I has been flawless, although the striker is somewhat tighter than advertised... Over 10 lbs, vs 6 lbs.

Although the 357 sig looks very nice, I am waiting on the S series... I like the idea of the compact, and would do a 40/357sig for me, but the 9 was perfect for the wife...

Absolutely no recoil, or muzzle flip due to the low bore, and the grip was a great fit for her small hands, compared to the Glocks she tried.

We got the LE version that uses a handcuff key rather than the standard 2 prong style, which I prefer... If we lose the key, chances are finding a handcuff key will be much easier than a proprietary style.

I did post a range report here, I think it got moved to the Lock and Load forum... Search my username for it...

Enjoy!

GSI just told me that the new version Steyr M models are production ready (see below), and Law Enforcement Agencies are lining up to check 'em out. The agencies seem to be levitating towards the M40, but some are also interested in the m9. Apparently, they like the overall modern ergonomics and especially the optional manual safety.

More good news. My first Steyr cost me $570. Now the brand new models are running at only $500 in the Gresham, OR area.

The fast acquisition triangular front sight is proving very popular. And for accuracy, using the tip of the triangle works great.

GSI mentioned that they will be shipping Trilux night sights (traditional 3 dots) very soon. And good news --- Trijicon should have Steyr night sights available within 30 - 60 days.

Steyr had it's first prototypes available for gun writers last June. Steyr released the M series last October to the general public and the early users helped find a few things that Steyr could improve on. For a brand new autopistol, the Steyr is one of the cleanist I've seen. And their excellent service to fix certain early models that had problems is nothing less than fantastic.

Steyr modified the trigger slightly and are also using a different trigger spring. The trigger is supposed to be much smoother without the heavier pull at the base of the trigger. This solves one of the major complaints that the trigger pull was too heavy, or varied too much from a high finger hold to a low finger hold.

There is also a drill hole in the carrier mechanism that now has a tighter precision tolerance. This will fix a few of the pistols that sometimes had trouble resetting.

Other changes are old hat now: the beveled ejector port fix and reaming out the firing pin channel on some early models.

I'll give a report along with the general serial number of my M40 in the near future, after I take it through an IPSC course and try out some various reloads.

If all this great news holds true,I may soon be selling my Glocks & buying an m40/m9/s-series for carry & possibly an m357 just for kicks!

Also, Steyr seems to have excellent customer svc., and a willingness to immediately address & correct any problems, which is another big plus.

Thanks again pete, you da man! long shot.

Thanks for the post Pete- I consider you the authority on the Steyr M series.

I hope the Steyr M series becomes a house hold name like Glocks and such, its a great handgun- the company (well the importer) has great customer service too.
