New Spring .22 Auto

[Blue Heeler]

I have a Colt Woodsman Match Target .22 which
is quite old now (new 1964)---It has not been
shot very much but I suspect that the spring
may need replacing.It doesn't like anything
but standard loads and the spring tension
feels light when racked.Also it is not
grouping as tightly as some equally old
models in other makes(eg Hi Standard & S&W).
Any info about the effects of a tired spring
or any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Blue, my thoughts are this. If you think that the spring tension is too light then replace it. A light recoil spring can lead to bad accuracy by not locking the pistol up tightly enough. And as inexpensive as a new spring would be you would quickly know if that was the problem without having spent a lot of money on it. George
