New Smith 45 acp revolver

In all honesty, these are better than the POJ TR21s. They are being viewed favourably by almost all who have seen fit to purchase one for an arm, a leg and one kidney. They need some finishing internally to make them absolutely trustorthy. They make a great coffin table display. (halloween joke) The TR22 seems to fit caliber, finish and old school demands. I have yet to hear of any safety issues in them as I did with the TR21s. S&W and CS got it right this time. It is a better revolver to me than the 325 in 45 ACP. I can't say that I will buy one. I prefer the look and feel of a S&W Mountain Gun. I am glad to see no more POJ Ahrends grips. I simply have to decide which caliber I want my Mountain Gun chambered for.

I have a mountain gun in 45 acp and love it and this new gun will just add to my collection of 45 acp revolvers.:D

A friend has one and it shoots particularly well...

A real "one holer".

It requires "moon clips" but it's fun to shoot... ;)

oh crap

I wrote S&W and begged them to come out with a Thunder Ranch gun in .45 ACP, never expecting it to happen, now I HAVE to buy one even though I have a 3" 625 and a 625 Mtn gun, and despite the fact that I vowed to never buy a S&W with the stupid frame mounted lock.

what to do, what to do.......................

In all honesty on all my newer S&W revolvers, I treat the frame key lock as I do with a rattlesnake. I leave them alone and they wont bother you.
Other then being unsightly I have never seen any actual faults with them. Such as it locking up on you while firing.
Anyone else?

There's a thread on www.smith-wessonforum.com that has posts concerning the locks activitating during firing and/or a drop. A thread on www.thehighroad.org discusses an adjunct instructor at S&W Acadmey recommending not to buy small frame revolvers with the lock as they will activate during firing, as one did during the class the poster attended. And on www.10-8forums.com, a dealer has sent S&W revolvers back to the factory for precisely this reason.

I'll let you know if I ever see one lock up while firing. Haven't seen it happen yet.

(Then again, I only see a hundred or so shooters a day, so my experience is limited...)

I can only call 'em like I see 'em. F'rinstance, I like and respect Denny Hansen enormously, but he's about to recieve a padded mailer full of busted MIM 1911 parts after his recent article in SWAT. ;) (If you want to see the MIM Hall of Shame, buzz_, the gunsmiths keep it on top of the heater in the shop; I'm sure Shannon or Bob will be happy to show it to you.)

If I buy a new .45 revolver I want it to say S&W,who gives a dam about Thunder Ranch.NOT me???????? You are probably paying $200 MORE FOR THE NAME just like Mountain gun where I live we have no mountains so I can't use it here:p

I'm glad they got rid of the gold bilboard on the sideplate, but until they get rid of the MIM hammer and trigger as well as the lock, I don't think I 'll be adding one to my N frame collection.

3 inch huh:D :D You only have two hands maybe you could part with the 3 inch and buy a new gun:D I know someone who would be intrested:cool: Just kidding I wouldn't sell mine either.

I have heard that Mike Verintino is doing a write up on the New 22 for American Handgunner. He is a good writer and knows how to get the most from a gun and loads so I am impatiant to read this.

model 25

I'd sell you my 14 year old boy first.
He's 6'2" and 250# of refrigerator emptying machine. He doesn't clean his room and smells funny sometimes....but when going out to shoot, you can load him up with all kinds of crap to carry to the truck. Saves me a lot of trips from the safe to the truck.:D

Now, about those internal locks, all real and imaginary reliability issues aside, I don't like them for any other reason than they're

FUGLY!
