New Sights for Shotgun

Need some help.

I have a Mossberg 500 with the typical stock bead sight.
This gun is for HD.

I dislike the bead sight but have no problem with the Mossberg.
Where can I get an aftermarket ghost ring sight (or something else) for my gun?
I think trijicon makes them but wondering about any others.
Any links would be appreciated.
Maybe I can talk my wife into a set for Xmas.

Since you already have a Mossberg, it's almost certainly drilled and tapped for sights on the receiver. Mossberg make a set of ghost-ring sights for their shotguns: last time I checked their Web site, the cost was $62.00 plus shipping - a real bargain compared to the others! I have these sights on two of my shotguns, and am very happy both with their performance and with the value I received for my money, compared to the $200+ cost of other GR sights.
 
Preacherman - I've got a 590 w/ bead site and was hoping to upgrade to a G/R. The receiver is drilled & tapped but how is the front sight installed? Is this something I could do myself?

Mossberg will be the route for me.
Unfortunately my 500 is not drilled already.
I will have to talk to a gunsmith to make sure he can handle the task.

I am curious about the front sight installation.

to my knowledge, every mossberg reciever is drilled and tapped for the ghost ring rear.


the front sight will need to be silver soldered or screwed on. you can do this if you have a mill (to make the appropriate relief in the front of the ramp for the screw head) and a tap, or you can have your gunsmith do it. I cannot fathom why mossberg doesn't just have two holes drilled and tapped in the barrel for the sights. i should email them about that.
 
Hi, Keifer. Sorry about the delay in replying - I didn't get back to this thread, I'm afraid.

You would need a gunsmith to silver-solder the front sight on your barrel, in place of the bead. This would necessitate re-blueing or re-parkerizing your barrel, of course. The rear sight is a no-brainer, as it simply screws into the pre-drilled holes.

BTW, that same sight set can be used on 12ga. and 20ga. shotguns from every major manufacturer. The only additional step is to drill and tap the receiver, if necessary, to put on the rear sight. I've mounted half-a-dozen of them on my own and friends' shotguns (Mossbergs, Remingtons, Winchesters), and they all seem to work fine with them.
 
I just screwed the front sight on on my 500. I used the sxisting hole for the front screw and then drilled and tapped another one to hold down the front of the ramp.
 
Check Out Ashley Outdoor they make ghost ring sight sets both front and rear of various dimentions. Good folks and good products.
