I am looking to buy a new shotgun and needed some opinions. I am currently shooting a Rem 870 express magnum (never had one issue love it). But it has a wood finish and is getting beat up in the duck blind and boat. Also, it only has a 3 in chamber. I am looking for a gun with a synthetic finish 3 1/2 in chamber and is reliable. My problem is I was looking into a semi-auto and wanted a remington bc i love mine so much. Well last week me and 3 friends were in the blind all 3 where shooting rem semi-autos two 11-87 and one spr-453( i know not made by rem but they put their name on it) both 11-87 had fail to ejects then stopped cycling shells period both guns are within 2 years old. The spr-453 failed to cycle 3rd shell most of the day then failed to fire and it is only 1 and a half years old. Is this just a random chance 3 remingtons same blind 3 different owners all fail. Opinions on what to buy I am thinking somewhere in the lines of pump after that incident and have looked at stoeger p350, benelli nova and supernova, and rem 870 super magnum.

You do not state a budget
A very reliable semi to consider is the Beretta A400 series - handles light target loads to 3.5" uber loads - but it isn't as cheap as a pump

In your budget range - the most gun for your money will be a pump gun - there are lots of synthetic stock options out there / but a good soft sided case will prevent damage to a gun in the boat - synthetic stocks can get beat up too if you smack them into things. You might just want to sand the stock on the gun you have --- put a few coats of a good varnish / verathane on it ...and just use a good case in and out of the blind and the boat, etc.
Browning BPS is my pump gun of choice ...and they have some camo options like this one ...that list at around $ 900 - but they're selling for under $ 800.

Browning also has a semi-auto the silver series ---that is their entry level gun and in a 3 1/2" its around $ 1,000 - so affordable for 3 1/2" guns in general.

The lower end semi-autos / especially the gas guns need a lot of maintenance if you expect them to be reliable - but the Rem 11-87 and 1100 have been solid guns for a long time ( but I don't know what they have in 3 1/2" )... I'm not a big gas gun fan - but the 11-87 or the 1100 can be 100% reliable if they're cleaned, lubed and maintained properly after every trip in the field. Its not inherent in those models - to not run.

My gun is being refinished right now just dont want to take it back out mess it up again would rather get a new gun for duck hunting and just use my 870 for deer hunting... I was just looking for some opinions on the benelli's nova and supernova, 870 super mag, and some of the other guns around my price range incase i missed some in the price range that fit my criteria.

I think you should look real hard at the new Mossberg Flyway series of shotguns! The series includes magnum pumps & auto-loaders for whatever your price range may be. They're made specifically for what you're needing. Mossbergs are a good, hard-working class of shotguns, IMO.

Failures to eject
You asked about what new gun to buy and only mentioned the three guns failing to eject as background. While you didn't ask what the cause may have been, I am curious. Were you all using the same 3-1/2" ammo from the same maker. None were more than 2 years old, but when were they last cleaned and is there a chance that getting ready for hunting you practiced with some really nasty ammo that clogged the gas port? When practicing were you shooting 3-1/2" and did they jam? Due to the cost of the big stuff, I doubt it.

Perhaps look into the Mossberg 935. The price is within your budget and gets favorable reviews. I had one for a few months before it was stolen, and although I only took it into the blind a couple times, it cycled 3" and 3.5" shells reliably. Mine also cycled 2 3/4" heavy loads without any problems, but keep in mind it was not designed for light loads, and will not cycle them reliably.
I felt it was well worth the money at the time, but I cannot give it a complete thumbs up since I didn't have it that long. Here's a link to the model I had, it comes with either 26 or 28" barrels. For about $80 more, it can be had in a camo pattern.

as to the 1187 i mention in my first post one had a bent piece in the gun not sure what piece it was. The other 1187 i think was a dirty gun problem and the spr453 had gas o ring problem and shoots better now that it was adjusted and cleaned but did cock two shells and jam the next time it was shot.
