New Shield 45

I picked up a Shield 45 last week and took it shooting today. I was absolutely giddy after the first two magazines went down range. 13 shots fired and 13 hit the paper at 7 yards, all in the 8/9/10 areas. Things were not as precise after those two magazines though.

I absolutely LOVE this gun! It points very well and hits at point of aim.

My shooting got a little less precise as I went on because the grip stippling that felt good on the first two magazines, became very abrasive as the day went on. My shooting hand web got very red. This doesn't take away from the gun, but does mean that I am going to be on the lookout for some new grip covering. I do wish the stippling was more like what is on the Shield 9.

I am on the lookout for some more magazines. Having only one 6 rounder and one 7 rounder makes for having to reload entirely too quickly. I like the extended magazine more than the 6 rounder. I was able to be more accurate with it so I will be ordering a few more 7 rounders tonight.

You made a great buy IMO. I have a Shield in both 9 & 45 and am very satisfied with both.

The 45 has a good trigger, handles recoil well and is more than combat accurate.

My only complaint, and of course this is personal, is that they are a tad too thin in the grip.

OP,

Congratulations on your Shield 45.

I have a Shield 40 and a 9mm barrel for it and magazines for 9mm as well as 40.

From the git go I was shooting low and right! Horribly low and right and no pattern what so ever. I am left handed.

My other 7 semis and 3 revolvers are dead on accurate and my Sig P938 was also (The Sig started dropping mags and going from safe to fire and I had that fixed but traded the pistol because of loss of confidence in it)

I shot it and shot it and shot it! I tried several grip alterations and did move the front sight a tad to the right which got me closer to my poa, but no cigar! I practiced my grip and trigger pull hundreds of time.

The 9mm barrel was even worse.

I was frustrated to the point that I was going to trade it for something else.

BUT

Today I put the gun on an improvised pistol rest and the 1st shot a teeny weeney high and left. Fantastic. Ensuing shots were very close to poa. I had practiced my trigger pull and suspected that arthritis in my hands was keeping me from gripping the Shield securely with its thin grip.

I went to a sitting grip without the rest. Right and low, but not as bad. My full of arthritis spine comes into play when standing.

Since I was beginning to suspect that my grip was too weak on the thin Shield grip, I put a glove on my shooting hand. Bingo, almost like I knew what I was doing again...LOL.

I have ordered a grip sleeve and will try it out when it gets here.

If the sleeve does not work, then I have tape and if that does not work, I will have to ask a perp to wait a second until I can get my glove on :D

I still need to shoot a lot more ammo, 40 S&W and 9mm to prove myself on shooting the Shield and gain confidence as a carry weapon.

Arthritis has caused me to not have the grip strength on the grip of the Shield, but so far has not impacted my shooting on larger grip guns. Tomorrow I will get a grip ball and see if I can get some strength back.

Took some sandpaper to my Shield 45 grip--much better now.

TIP: Don't take the 7rd 45 cal mags apart--you'll never get them back together.

Congratulations! I bought the Shield 45 for carry. Been very impressed with its performance. First time out fired two magazines rapid fire at 7 yards. Just point and shoot. 13 rounds in a 6 inch group. Fired a couple more magazines taking time to aim; POA and POI are the same. Spoiled me. I had sold all my .45ACP pistols a year ago. At 80 years of age, .45ACP was beating me up. The Shield was so soft shooting I bought a STI Edge .45ACP, then a CZ 97B. m/b I'll try a HK Mark 23 next.

I hear you. The Shield 45 is a soft shooter. I just ordered a Springfield XD Mod 2 subcompact in 45. I have the same gun in 9mm and it is a sweet pistol. I really had no idea that .45 would be so fun to shoot.
