Hi, Just bought very nice 4 inch blued .357 security six prefix 150 gun for $175. I was wondering if any of you know if there is a grip that works with this series? Love this gun already, but grip feels a little small.
make sure that you specify the serial number series when ordering the grips. the first couple of years the security six had a different grip frame from the rest of the years. Herrett also makes grips for it
Nobody makes grips for the Security-Six(With the 150 serial number prefix) that you can buy off the shelf, including Pachmayer, Herrett's, and any of the other grip manufacturers! The reason is because these early 150 series grip frames were of a different shape and were larger than the later(151 and up S/N prefix's)and aftermarket grips for this early grip design was therefore discontinued by all of the major grip manufacturers!
Herrett's will still make custom grips for any gun to match your hand side if you would contact them to place an order. On the other hand, if you watch ebay and the various gun auctions, you can still obtain some(NOS)Herrett's wood and sometimes, rubber grips for the older(150 series)Security-Six!
Many times, an ebay(Or, other seller?)won't know whether his Herrett's grips will fit the earlier(150 series)or the newer(151 series and up)Security-Sixes! The Herrett's boxes are marked either RSS(For the earlier 150 series)or RNSS(For the 151 and up series)Security Six-and RSS equals "Ruger Security Six" and RNSS equals Ruger New Security Six!
Jay Scott also previously had made grips for the earlier(150 series)Security-Sixes.
Ah the grips. Smallish factory grips were the only flaw of the Sixes. I read an old review of them by Jeff Cooper. His only complaint was that the grips shifted around in his hands making shooting at speed all but impossible.
