New scattergun help

Hello all, Looking to get a new scattergun and had a few questions. I plan on getting more into skeet and trap, but also need an all-round hunter for duck, geese, pheasant, etc….Basically I’m trying to get as close as possible to the “do all” semi auto shotgun. My price range and research has led me to a few options, and I was hoping all you out there can help me decide.

1. Remington 11-87
2. Winchester X2
3. Beretta 3901

All these are 12 gauge with 3” shells, synthetic stocks and 28” barrel. First hand knowledge/ reviews would me much appreciated. Am I missing any others? And as a side note, how do any of these stack up to my old browning A-5?

..never shot an A-5, although I would like to sometime...I wanted a good, versatile field gun and settled on a Win model 50( I like vintage guns)..have found it an excellent shotgun and now having since bought 2 additional barrels of different length and choke have covered most situations...I paid $500 for it...it was new in the box (made in 1961 and never even been put together)..and believe the value was very good especially since the gun is a pre-64 Win with typical high quality of machined parts and blued finish...

I have an 11-87. So that is what I would choose. You can easily switch the choke tubes as well as the barrels. And when I first got the gun (it was a gift from my grandfather) I had it figured out in like 5 minutes. It was that intuitively designed that at 10 years old I could figure it out. It was a little big for me at the time, but I grew into it. I have a lot of memories of with the gun. I'm definitely not going to get rid of it ever.

I have recently shot an 11-87 and a 391 (not a 3901), both being sporting guns and stock from the factory. No mods except a Mercury mag cap weight and stock weight on the 391. The feel of both guns to me are different. The trigger feels better on the 391. The 391 felt a "bit" better to me handling it, the balance felt better to me (added weights?). Both guns "did not" fit me. With the same loads (1oz. 7 1/2 shot, 3 dram) the 11-87 was a bit softer to shoot. Cannot comment on the X2, I have never shot or handled a X2.

With the above said, I did just recently purchase a Berreta AL391 Teknys Gold Trap. Like Dave McC said, the 11-87 or the 390 is not a dog. I know many that own both and like both. If you are not intending to modify the gun probably the one that fits you the best, you will end up liking the best.

I dunno about the X2.... but my 11-87 supermag (3-1/2") is a nice item, cycles everything I put in it so far, from my 2-3/4 low recoils to the 3-1/2 beasties, it works great. Kick is reduced by the action pretty well too.

A couple people I know say that they will not take a remington (or other blow-back operated) semiauto to a duck blind on a day when it is below freezing. Something about a dog, and water, and making ice that has caused the gun to freeze up and fail to function properly. If kept dry, no problems, but it doesnt take a lot of water to bring things to a stop.
