I've been looking at a new .308 at academy. i'm stuck on the savage hunter or 700 adl.i've been seeing lots of bad reviews on the adl. i will be shooting hogs in the 100 to 200 yrd range.

What precision shooter said. I have owned both but now all I have left are Savages. I never thought I would see the day when Savage would beat the lands and grooves off Remington, but they did. :D

To each is own i have both and honestly those savage magazines suck so bad and are way over priced. Thats a huge downer for me. Both are equally accurate. Not to mention putting a boyds stock on the savage is a pain because you have to buy new bottom metal which adds a lot of extra cost to the stock like 50 percent more. Just food for thought. I own 3 savages and plan to buy more. Just buy a used 700 bdl or older adl. The scopes on those trophy hunter packages arent all that great really. You are better off with a model 10 from walmart and put a better scope on it if the savage feels better.

I have to say remington. hunting or competition, the savage trigger is the main reason for me. They are somewhat unreliable. I've had and seen others have issues with the sear disengaging. I am pretty sure that's why they came out with the accutrigger. The little blade in the trigger stops the sear from releasing the fireing pin. I love jewell triggers.

As most of you probably know there have been instances where Remington triggers have failed. I cant see how they without being adjusted incorrectly. Their trigger is designed for nothing lower than 3.5 lb. Just my 2¢

The triggers suck on both. The Remington triggers made since 2007 are safe, but not very good. The Remington triggers made 1946-2006 were a flawed design that in rare cases could release the firing pin with no trigger pull. While improperly adjusted triggers can cause the same issues, the Walker designed trigger could do it regardless of trigger settings.

The Accutrigger is designed so that it is possible to pull the trigger without depressing the blade in the center. When this happens the sear is released, but the firing pin block prevents the gun from firing. You get a loud click, but no boom. The only fix is to cycle the action to re-cock the rifle and get a proper grip on the trigger when you try again. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen, especially when wearing gloves.

Personally I'd buy the Ruger American and have a better rifle than either for less money. Of your choices It'd be close, but I'd probably go Savage in a 308, but in a long action would go Remington. Savage long actions are loooong and ungainly.

JMR40- The only time mine messed up on me was when I had the spring set to light. I dont shoot it to much in the Winter so not sure on that one.

I'd buy whichever you like the best, it's about 6 of one half-dozen of the other. I have a buddy who's shooting a cheap ADL under 1.5" at 250 yards for 5 shots with his 180 grain Accubond handload. He bought his .30-06 for under $300 from Wal-Mart when they were blowing out the camouflaged ADL's around July 2014.

All my Savages were bought to build on so they all have custom barrels, but they don't beat my Remington rifles by much and my most current ADL in .223 has been a tack driver that I bought as soon as they started trickling in after the trigger recall. The only thing the Trophy Hunter has going for it over the ADL is the Nikon scope.

The triggers suck on both out of the box, mostly due to frivolous laws suits.
Any new ADL in a shop is very old stock. ADL's haven't been made since 2004. That is not a reason to discount the rifle though.
Like taylorce1 says, buy the one that you like and fits you best. M700 triggers are adjustable.
"...over the ADL is the Nikon scope..." Yep. As I recall, in 2004, Savage package rifles were still shipped with low end Simmons scopes.

Pick the one that feels best to you. The last two rifles I've purchased have both been Savages, a Precision Carbine and a 116. I like both, they are accurate but both have shown issues feeding from the detachable magazine. My son has an ADL that he got 4 or 5 years ago. It too is accurate but it's problem is a sticky chamber. It'll shoot fine then all of the sudden an empty sticks so bad a cleaning rod is needed to extract it. Don't overlook the Weatherby Vanguard S2, I got one in 243 a few years ago and have no complaints about it.

i decided on the savage .308. but cant find none in stock in Austin. i went to academy to see how the 700 adl felt. dam the barrels make full connect with the stock all they way down . i would like to see the rifle before buying one. if all fails. i"ll get the 30-06. they have tons of them in stock.

been calling every where. none in stock. it looks like academy stop selling the .308 savage hunter combo. they only have the 30-06 and .270 . dam it.
