New Savage MkII. Fun, accurate, but some issues.

The wife has been wanting to learn to shoot, so we have been shopping for a nice .22LR for her. She decided she liked the Savage line, so we picked one up at Cabela's. Gray laminate stock, blued barrel. It came with a Simmons 3-9 on it, which I will definitely replace later on (the clarity is pretty bad and at 9x the optical effects are really funky).
Shooting Remington Golden Bullet ammo I got it on paper at 25yds and then moved on to 50yds. Once zeroed that thing put the next ten shots into the center ring. It's likely more accurate than I am capable of taking advantage of.
What a sweet shooter! The trigger is excellent. The bolt was a bit stiff, but after a good cleaning it's starting to loosen up.

Only having one real issue with the gun... it doesn't want to extract spent cases. I'd say 7 out of 10 don't eject. They are still partially stuck in the bore upon opening the bolt, anything from 1/4 of the way out to half way out. I have to stick my finger in and catch the rim with my fingernail to pop it the rest of the way.
I've read plenty of threads on the net about this issue, so right now I'm assuming a good cleaning might solve the problem. I'll let you all know after my next trip to the range, hopefully this weekend if I get the time! Hopefully it's not a bad extractor, I don't feel like sending it back.

No pics yet, I didn't have my phone with me at the range. I'll get some next trip!

Clean the heck out of the chamber, then clean it again. Sometimes fouling gets in there are makes extraction a beast, especially with tight match grade chambers.

Check out rimfirecentral.com I have seen a number of threads about that same problem. I own one myself and having the same problem. I have found that by pulling back the bolt with a quick (jerk) pull and the round usually ejects. Do not pull the bolt back slowly as it will not eject.

I also have had problems loading the bullet into the chamber. I have learned that by pushing the very back of the bolt (not the handle) forward with my thumb and it loads easly and I use the bolt to seal the deal once the bullet is in the chamber.

Very accurate rifle but this is the first rifle I have ever had that has every had the problem of loading and ejecting the round.

Best of Luck..... Lemmon
