Now to go to the range :-)

One thing is for sure I'll be buying most of my 41mag ammo online. Very much cheaper then at any brick and mortar store these days

Congratulations! Great looking revolver. The 41 magnum is my sentimental favorite handgun caliber. I have two of them, but not a model 58 (yet). I have a model 57 4" and a model 657-4 Mountain Gun. You'll really enjoy that one. jben

Gary,

Nice gun! I love the fixed sight Smiths most of all. If you have ever considered handloading, now is the time to start. The 41 Mag is a handloader's cartridge if there ever was one, and it would be a whole lot less expensive than ANY factory ammo.

I'm surprised it came with those 1917 style grips, a Tyler Grip adapter would be an awesome addition!

I've always lusted after a good M-58

Somehow it failed to live up to it's billing as the ultimate police service weapon.
Too bad. The cop load of 210 bullet at 950 fps ought to be lights out.

True enough and a valid point, Guv. I think that ballistic parameter was the intent of the originators of a .40 caliber round in a revolver designed for police work: a relatively big caliber and comparitively heavy bullet traveling at a velocity that kept recoil in check (making accurate, repeat shots attainable) and yet delivering sufficient "stopping" power.

Thanks Jben

I used to own a 57 with a 6 inch barrel but was forced to sell. I lucked upon this one at my local gunshop

California makes you wait 10 days between purchase and picking up any firearm while they do a background check

Gary

That was meant to be sarcasm poking at kalifornia's ridiculous laws

How long does a background check take? I've purchased/transferred firearms in VA and TX. Background checks take no more than 5 minutes, tops

You may not realize how insane and ridiculous

Handguns are dropping off the list and the pool of 'Safe' handguns is soon to dry up.
Funny how an unsafe handgun is somehow rendered safe when bought by the local police department.
