New Ruger Vaqueros

Smaller frame, back to the pre-'63 XR3 gripframe, hard rubber grips, reverse indexing pawl that lines up each chamber with the loading gate like the Colts, crescent head ejector rod.
Stainless & blue in all three barrel lengths, .45 Colt & .357 Magnum.

Are you saying that all the new Vaqueros have all these features? Is it a special run? More info would be great. I'm liking what I hear.

hmm, no mention of a .44 cal version.
Wonder if it's because of the smaller size or because the New is geared towards the Cowboy shooters.
If it's the former, then I wonder how the .45Colt wold stand up to hot loads?

Hal, I wondered the same thing. Buffalo Bore in a new Ruger might not be a good idea. Cor-Bon may be out too. I just traded off two 44-40 Ruger Vaqueros. I may have made a mistake. I guess people will be collecting the different single action Rugers from old XR3 to new XR3.

I asked about incorporating keylocks in other existing revolvers a couple months ago & was told my usually reliable source had heard nothing about that.
But, there's a post on the Ruger Forum saying the poster has heard the locks will be, and then non-lock guns will be dropped.
As I've mentioned before: my best advice is to get what you think you'll need for the rest of your life as soon as you possibly can before they devolve into forms you can't tolerate.
This is no criticism of Ruger, you're going to see it extending much farther.
In the service I had a constant gripe about having to operate to the lowest common denominator because, even though I might be able to do something in a better or more efficient way, the guy working next to me couldn't.
In the current context, I'm getting pretty fed up with what three states are doing to the entire firearms industry and the rest of the firearms nation.
And, I mean no offense to the normal people in those states who are even more victimized by their idiotic governments than we are.
OK, political rant switched OFF.
I still intend to get one of the new Vaqueros. I've heard sometimes internal gunlocks mysteriously vanish. Of course, I'd never advocate that as something anybody should try at home.... Golly, the very idea gives me the shudders!

This may not come out quite right, but one of the things that bothers me most about the locks is that I think that they encourage sloppy thinking and gunhandling. For the record, I think loaded chamber indicators are subject to the same concern. There is no substitute for using eyes and, if necessary, fingers to make sure a gun is unloaded. There is no way a lock, internal or external, can make a gun safe if the gun isn't handled safely in the first place.

You can't make a gun "safe" by putting locks in them or on them. All you do is encourage disrespect. :(

Seems like something looking into. I have 5 Vaqueros and was getting ready
to get a case colored 7 1/2 in .45Colt. These new ones seem to have alot
of features that are apealing. My question is, can they handle my hot loads
that the standard Vaquero does?

"can they handle my hot loads that the standard Vaquero does?"

NO!
Ruger is discontinuing all calibers except .44 magnum in the big Vaquero.
If you want a fixed sight .45 to overload, buy now.

The key lock is concealed under the grip. You have to take it off to lock the gun. They may anticpate restrictive and repressive "safety" laws but are going by the letter and not the spirit. Good for Ruger.

Well, I think the new Vaquero in 357 mag would be nice. It has always bugged me that the 357 is just as big as the oversize 45, and even heavier because there is more metal left in the cylinder.

I am kind of almost wishing I had gotten the 45 in the Blackhawk anyway ... if it's not true to the original SAA why not just get the adjustable sights ?

Y'all think the "old" oversize, high-pressure Vaqueros will be worth a lot of money in a year or two ....

Color me ignorant...my last gun purchase was in October, '98...I was pretty dialed in all the way up through the S&W "agreement" debacle, and Colt's tinkering with "smart guns", but I must confess that I'm out in the cold on this issue of "locks". Am I to assume that these new Rugers...and, possibly other makes...are about to incorporate an internal lock that might disable the action, and would need a KEY to lock/unlock?

Just ordered a 7 1/2 case colored .45colt Vaquero today. Dealer said I should have by Wed. Figured I better get it while I can.
