I just saw a model p97 at my dealer yesterday. and was very impressed. the trigger was exe. feel of the gun was great, anyone had exeperence with the guns..and how do they compare to SIG GLOCK and hk.. I know they are half the price..but I was impressed.

I recently bought a P95--9mm version of the same platform--and was similarly impressed with the trigger pull and the fit of the gun in my hand. The pull seems a bit long but it is smooth; compared to the CZ75B and S&W, the Ruger much smoother. Still working on my accuracy with it and I think the grips would benefit with some rubber slip-ons.
All things considered, it feels like a very refined handgun, has "std. caps" available at reasonable prices at a price that was hard to beat--$259 (blue version).

I've had the P97 for a year now. Mine has a hogue slip on and PT night sights. I love it and carry it daily. I had a slight trigger problem but Ruger fixed it promptly. They also sent me an extra magazine and paid my shipping cost. It's one of the smoothest shooting 4" barrels you are going to find, if not the smoothest.

I like thwe P-97 also... but I'd much rather have a total of 15+1 rounds of 9mm in my P-95 than 8 rounds of .45 in a P-97. That's simply a personal preference though.

I kinda like large #'s of rounds,

Ron,
It's an awesome gun at a great price. I've had mine for a couple months, and have put approximately 400 rounds through it. I got mine from JCArmory for $285.00. I don't think you can find them anywhere for that price anymore.

It's replaced my Walther P-99 as my primary home defense gun.

Ben, I have to agree to disagree with you. I have two 15 shot 9mms, but I would rather reach for 8+1, plus a spare mag, of .45 any day. If that's not enough to get the job done, than I better have handy an AK with a pile of 30 rounders.

That's what makes America GREAT! We can disagree!

My theory is, "Why limit yourself?"

I've owned a P-95 (wish I still had it), and now shoot a CZ-75B in IDPA. I prefer the CZ, but think the Ruger is great.

The new P-97 is a slight improvement over the P-95, with a different barrel lockup design. The trigger is quite good.

You could do worse.

Ron - I've had my P97DC for about 2 months now...I find the recoil a bit more than my Glock 30 but other than that it is an excellent pistol. I also put on a Houge Handall. Points great, eats everything I feed it and is quite accurate. I think I stole mine for $199.00 :) LNIB, was in the shop at the right time I guess

Apples and oranges: you're comparing a .45 to a 9mm, and its hard to tell. I thnk the P-97 is significantly more accurate than the P-90, though. I've been very impressed with the two that I've shot.

I handled a P97 yesterday at a shop. I found the double action to be glassy smooth, but the single action to be "mushy." When in single action, there was about a quarter inch take-up before the trigger was released. I didn't like it at all. This was a rental gun so maybe it was not a good example of what it should be. Maybe the 97 in DAO would be nice, but if all P97's are mushy like that in its single action mode, I think I may pass on this one.

I've had my P97 for 7 months now, and it is a very good shooter. The single action trigger on mine is almost as good as my Springfield loaded, and that is to say very good. It has functioned flawlessly thru about 500 rds now, including different hollow point styles. It is also pretty accurate. It was also quite a bit less than my Springfield Loaded. Rod Black

I have a Ruger P95DC and it is a great pistol. I got it about 2 months and I have put 1000 rounds through it with out jams or malfunctions. THe pistol works flawlessly. I recommend Ruger's pistols.

How do these new Rugers compare with the P89? One of my buddies has a P89, and while 100% reliable, you can't even hit a barn at two yards with it. He's tried everything, even adjusting the sights for windage and elevation doesn't help.

Is the P97 a leopard of completely different spots?

I went out to my friend's house one time and his Ruger P89 was very accurate. My uncle said that his was very accurate also.

P97 is my next purchase. I have the Ruger fund going now. Anyone who wants to contribute should post here, and we can arrange a wire transfer...

Those Rugers are nice pistols. They shoot and shoot and shoot. I have two already and have nothing but good things to say about them.

I just bought a Ruger P97 (it will be my first Ruger centerfire semi-auto handgun). I have had Ruger revolvers, rimfire autoloaders, etc and all have been good (except in the area of trigger pulls). I am waiting for the friggen 10 day Kalifornia waiting period to end so I can shoot the P97 and report back. But from my first impressions (holding it) the ergonomics are excellent, and the overall balance very good.

Regarding Ruger triggers: thats not unheard of for Rugers to have poor/$hitty triggers (especially the revolvers). I sold my GP100 for that reason (15 lb DA/7 lb SA neither were smooth). If only Ruger would fix their trigger pulls right I think they would sell a lot more guns.
