New Ruger Bisley Hunter .44 Mag issue...

Just got a new Bisley Hunter and am very pleased with its accuracy. It seems to really like the 300 gr. Hornady XTP's. It'll shoot a .75 inch group at 25 yds. from my hands off of a sandbag. However, I've noticed that almost immediately upon shooting it I am seeing discoloration of the stainless cylinder at the very front and going back about 1/8th of an inch along the side of the cylinder. I checked the barrel/cylinder gap and is a tight .006 inch (I like them a little tighter than than that). I've had a regular Hunter a couple of years ago and do not remember this happening. Any suggestions on what is causing this and if it might be something that I might want to address with Ruger?

I'll try to send pictures later but am at work and won't be able to take any until Sunday.

Thanks,

You must be kidding.Very hot gases come out of the barrel/cylinder gap and yes they discolor the cylinder. .006" gap is OK and .75" @ 25 yds is very nice . You really have nothing to complain about !!

Hi mete,

I appreciate the response. I'm not kidding. :) I only posted this since I've not run into this sort of heat induced discoloration on the sides of the cylinder.

Thanks,

I'm feeling a little better now...

I got another response on THR and he is indicating that his Hunter is doing the same thing and is nothing to be concerned about.

I have a SuperBlackHawk .44 and havent noticed any discoloration on the cylinder other than in the front around each cylinder. I agree Sir William, I think the best part about stainless-- FLITZ :D

Hmmm....Wondering about barrel to cylinder gap?

camaroman,

Do you, by chance, know what your barrel to cylinder gap (bcg) measurment is? I'm just trying to see if there is a relationship between the scorching and bcg?

Thanks,
