After one of the longest months of my life, my new Global Trades SSR-85C showed up today and I wasted no time in taking it to the range.

First impressions out of the container: A new rifle. Fit and finish were excellent, and I mean it. All of the numbers on the parts match. The parkerizing is top notch. The wood on the stock is some of the nicest blond wood I've ever seen, and the innards were clean but nicely oiled.

At the range, I decided I'd shoot a couple of groups at 30 yards to see what kind of sighting they had done at the factory. The shots were about 6" low, but the groups were excellent. I'll know more tomorrow when I attempt 50 and 100 yards benchrest for grins.

I also picked up a Saiga Sporter AK-action rifle today too and I shot it side by side with scope against the Global gun. Accuracy was about the same, although I'm interested in seeing whether or not the scope is worth it on the Saiga at longer range.

I've got a Global Trades SSR-85b. It amazes me how much more accurate it is compared to the $300 AK's.

I get 4" groups at 100yds on a good day of shootin. I put a scope mount on the side of the receiver and installed a 4x24 PSO scope on the side of it. Through the scope, I'm getting 6" groups at 150yds

I tell ya - even with the deficencies of the 7.62x39 cartridge, I rate my SSR right up there in the top 3 of my favorite guns I own.

You shouldn't be disappointed - it was definitely worth the wait.
