New rifle, is green an indication of copper?

Hi All. I have a new Marlin xl7 in .270 with 20 rounds down the pipe. I cleaned it really well before the first shoot. I just ran a patch down and the the residue is greenish in tint. I have some copper cleaner on hand. Should I run it down it or clean with regular solvent? There are so many variant opinions on break in, I am not trying to get into that, but the right way to clean this thing. Thank you guys.

Yes, green on your patch is copper. It could be from a brass jag or bronze brush. Run a wet patch through with just your rod (unless you have a plastic jag or loop) and let it sit a while. If it turns green you have copper. If it doesn't turn, run the same patch through again with the bare rod and see if it picks up any green from the solvent you left in the bore.

If you have copper, clean the bore following the directions for your copper solvent. I like Boretech Eliminator for copper since there's no limit to how long it can be left in the barrel.
