New revolver questions

I finally got my Taurus mod 627 in .357, stainless, 4". I was considering the titanium model, but 4 ounces and $110 made the decision for me. I've only put about 20 rounds through it in the back yard, but all seems well. I have a couple of questions. I'd like this thing to last to pass on to my sons. The gunsmith nearly balked at me even cleaning a stainless weapon saying " I wouldn't worry about cleaning it much". I know it's stainless but c'mon, it still needs a swab run through it and wiped down occasionally. What is the consensus on the best lubricant for a handgun (revolver)? I also got a nice grip from Hogue which feels better than the stock grip, but time will tell which one I use. thanks to all for their opinions and feedback, it made buying my first hand gun, (and I'm 37), much easier.

Even with a stainless gun, you should try to clean your guns within 2 days of shooting to prevent powder fouling from absorbing airborne moisture. Use any good powder solvent and a bronze brush.

Lubricate with a quality lubricant. Rem-oil is fine, as is FP-10, Tetra lube or even simple motor oil, lightly applied. If you're going to store the gun for a while, don't use CLP as I've found that it evaporates over time and doesn't seem to protect against rust as well as an oil.

I agree with everyone, and always clean my SS's and everything else within 1 day of using. Like you, I take pride in my guns, so cleanum!!! ;)

This my friend is someone looking to have him some work in the not to distant future. ;)

Flitz!!!

Flitz cloth and cleaning goop is what I use on my Taurus 608SS4.

Now, for the frontal area, if elbow grease and flitz won't do the job, a little bit of workfrom a "chore boy" bronze/copper crub pad will do the trick.

On the front of my cylinders, I have been known to use some 0000 steel wool and flitz goop.

I use only Flitz cloth and goop on the "presentation" surfaces.

I find my SS guns require more care and cleaning. After about a 100 rounds they can start to get very dirty looking. And need more care to get them clean. :)
