New purchase reports.

Hey folks, I thought you might be interested in how some recent purchases have turned out. I went to the Shot Show and while there I ordered a Springfield Loaded Full Size with night sights
and the parkerized finish, a Glock 29 with night sights, and a Century G3 (read about that in the
rifle dept. tomorrow) Here goes:

Springfield:
The gun arrived within two days of purchase with all hardware. That includes a lock
(whoopee!), a cleaning rod, two magazines, an allen wrench, two keys for the MSH lock, and a
curved piece of steel 1/8" thick with 1/2" legs. What that's for, I have no idea. It has Novak (trijicon) night sights, the MSH safety, and the full length recoil guide. Also, Springfield has finally found out how to make a gun non-sharp (for lack of better erminology). All edges are nicely de-horned, but not to the point of looking like a proctologist's instrument. The gun has a few marks on it. Two of the grip screws show that an idiot is running about the plant with a screwdriver. Also, the idiot has found the grinder and has been allowed to install sights. The grind (fitting) marks are somewhat visible...more on this later. Don't get me wrong, the sight blemishes aren't that bad...they're just there. I tested the MSH safety, seems ok. As you've probably seen, the key is a small nickel sized disk with a protrusion, and two "teeth" or "pins." You insert the teeth into matching holes in the MSH and turn the lock. The lock prevents the hammer from cocking. I'd hate to be the poor SOB trying to use this in the middle of the night just after being awakened. Discreet it is, user friendly it aint. I wound up replacing this piece with a Wilson "speed chute" and MSH. The trigger is adjustable for overtravel, but was set
perfectly. The trigger broke cleanly at 5 lbs.

Range trip:

I fired about 250 rounds last weekend, and had some (4) problems with the ejector. The cartridge would wind up in front of the ejector, but the ejector wouldn't snap over the rim.
Result: A cartridge in the chamber with the slide open about an 8th of an inch.

Fix action: I spoke to Springfield on Monday, and they sent a new extractor. I received it Friday, and installed it. It looked like someone had done some polishing on it to make sure that it would work for me. Also, the extractor seemed to be a little more beveled toward the bottom. Another problem. While cleaning the gun after the first range session, I found that the rear sight
was just about to fall off! First, I covered up the grinder marks that were everywhere, then I cleaned it well, went back to the range briefly and sighted it in and Locktighted it.

I went back to the range today, and fired about 225 to 250 rounds through it, with no problems. It ate everything I gave it (which happened the first time as well). I found out while goofing around that it will even feed empty fired cases. All the real
testing was done with handloaded 200 gr. SWC with 5.4 and 6.0 grains of W231. I swapped the full length guide rod with a standard one and a plug. The gun shoots VERY well, and I'm happy that I FINALLY have a full size 1911. Accuracy is great (no, I didn't bench it, but I can if you folks want me to). I'm very happy with this purchase!

The Glock:

Disclaimer: Before I shot this gun, I hated Glocks. I was always very unhappy with the way they felt, looked, you name it.
Here goes:
This gun also came with all hardware, which was two 10 rd mags, the mag loader, a cleaning rod, and a lock (whoopee again!). The sights were made by Trijicon. The gun arrived in what I
would consider "perfect" condition. So far, I have about 300 10mm rounds (light load, btw) though it without a problem. The test rounds were 165 gr. Berry's FP over 6.0 gr of 700x (1025
fps avg). The trigger breaks at 5.5 lbs. Sighting down the G29 slide is like looking down the deck of an aircraft carrier. Talk about easy to aim! Accuracy is great on this one too, and it
works so well and is so much fun, I like it...a lot. I'm extremely happy with this purchase. BTW, I've purchased a Pierce grip extension for all my mags (bought several more) and a Bar-Sto 10mm barrel for it for hot loads. I'll let you guys know how that goes if you're interested. "This gun is much more manageable than one would expect. As I said, these loads were only just over 1000fps, but I feel confidant that the hotter loads will still remain very easy to handle in this platform. the Pierce extenders help a lot."

That's ok...

I think I'll keep it! :D BTW, I added this: "This gun is much more manageable than one would expect. As I said, these loads were only just over 1000fps, but I feel confidant that the hotter loads will still remain very easy to handle in this platform. the Pierce extenders help a lot."

I would hardly call my experience "terrible." I've bought enough guns to know that perfection is rarely in the box...despite what the company's slogan says. The Glock pistol line in general is a long way from "Perfection" as well.
