Hello, I'm new to the forums and new to the gun world.

I have a crazy idea but I'll need your expertise! I plan on bisecting a gun in half lengthwise so I could place it into a display case as art. And I was wondering:

1. What type of rifle is the most popular in the US gun world? Or what [affordable] gun would you like hung on your wall? (I was thinking the M4 because I feel its the iconic American gun. Although I could be completely wrong)
2. What should I look for to purchase this gun?

Maybe colt 45 or Desert eagle ?
Be a darn shame tho.

One thing to keep in mind is that even split lengthwise and unusable, it will still be a "gun", and still subject to all of the same laws as a fully-functional example when it comes to selling your artwork.
 
@ woodye Anarchy after art is fine with me, I just need to maintain my patience. The colt 45 or desert eagle is more popular than the M4?

Were you thinking about rifles or handguns?

Some kind of 1911 variant would be a good choice, as would some kind of AR15.
 
I would prefer a rifle because handguns seem to be a bit too small as a display. But to set as priorities, whichever is more popular.
