New Pistol

No real "break-in" per-say, but I usually recommend you disassemble clean & lube prior to your first shooting session. Also, a snap cap & some dry firing will help too.
Have fun & congrats on the new HK!

500 rounds

I think my manual suggests a 500 round break in period. Mine didn't malfunction once through that period. Just an excuse to get to the range. So buy a buncha ammo and get to the range! You gettin' the stainless slide? Nice pistol...

My experience w/ the .45 and compact .40 model has been excellent. Both bought new, field-stripped, cleaned, and lubed, and off to the range. Put approx 400-500 rds through each w/ out any problems whatsoever. Although a break-in period is recommended, it's not required. The HK USP pistols are accurate and ready for work right out of the box.
