New pistol, no ammo!

Wideners site indicates they have some Blazer Aluminum LRN in stock. Shoots fine. They're a very reliable source.

Not as far as I'm concerned. I shoot it all the time in my revolvers and semi-automatics and have never had any problems with it. From what I've read on other threads on the aluminum ammo that would seem to be a concensus.

MidSouth Shooters Supply is listing a number of different .38 Special loads as "in stock" - good folks to do business with.

Was at my local Bass Pro yesterday and they had plenty of .38 Special. Wal Marts in my area are iffy, sometimes they have a box or two. Dicks hasn't had any for quite a while. Dunhams on Sat. had four, plus a UMC 250 pack. Gander Mountain also had quite a bit. Seems like we need to do some hunting.

I've been checking three super Walmarts and one Academy, finally picked up one box of 38 sp. 130 grain jacketed flatnose, that was the entire order for this Walmart. I have a few boxes of 357mag but prefer shooting the 38 special in my Cimarron.Since the election ammo has been in short supply, it's not that people are buying it, it's that dealers arent receiving it to sell.

Dealers are receiving ammo as usual, it's just that people are buying out their stock as soon as it arrives, so it only seems like they aren't receiving ammo. At Bass the other day a clerk related to me that one single lady bought out their entire stock of 9mm the very morning they received it, $1,200 worth. Naturally it seems to customers arriving later that Bass isn't receiving any ammo. But that just isn't so. It's just being scooped up faster than they can stock it.

I haven't seen .38 or .357 in about 2 months. I went into the local Wallys the other day and they had 2 boxes of 9mm WWB 100 packs. I bought them both.

They are getting small deliveries and everyone grabs it as soon as it is put out. You almost have to be standing there when they stock the shelves.

Most of my local Wal-Marts are out of all major pistol calibers, but tonight I found a small older Wal-Mart about 15 miles away that folks seem to have forgotten, it had plenty of all common calibers.

I agree, there is major hoarding going on. I was at a local range on Sunday and was told that they had some regular guys who came in every pay day and bought ammo. One of those guys had 10,000 rounds of 9mm in his hoard and was working on getting 10,000 rounds of .40.

WTF? I was at Bass Pro on Saturday and they were out of virtually all handgun ammo but had all kinds of rifle ammo.

I attend many/most of our DFW area gun shows, and have for five years or so. As a result, I am on a first name basis with a number of the "regulars". This Sunday, I talked to "Sam", one of the guys who runs one of the larger ammo suppliers at our local area shows.

(Several months ago, I witnessed a customer coming up and asking if he had any .45--whem "Sam" said yes, how much do you want? The customer said "all of it" and dropped his credit card on the table.)

I asked "Sam" if business had dropped off any lately. He gave me a weary smile and saisd that they had cleaned him out Saturday, and he had to make a trip to the warehouse for Sunday's show. He also said that he had made three trips out to the truck so far that day to re-stock. I don't know how many rounds of any specific caliber he was selling, but he probably has 50 linear feet of table dedicated to ammo and components at every show, and we see between two and four gun shows per month here.

We still see good supplies of ammo at the gun shows, but the price is a variable. Components are available likewise, and although prices went up a good bit last year, seem to have stabilized to a certain extent.

Dealers are not getting much ammo because their wholesalers aren't getting much. I'm sure the manufacturers are producing every single round they can, but they are not shipping much, if any, to their wholesalers. Is something going on that we don't know about?? I think so, and I am very nervous.

The same is true with firearms. I’ve never worn the tin-foil hat before, but I’m going to get fitted for one tomorrow.

Thank You!

I have been checking in with Ammunition To Go periodically, looking for the 158gr +p LSWHP (the venerable "FBI load"). This thread caused me to check in with them, and there they were! I ordered two boxes! They are claiming a 9-12 day delay on their website owing to high volume, and it did take about two weeks for me to get my last order, but they appear to have some good stuff in stock. Their prices aren't that bad (relatively), either. The ammo I ordered was $19.95 per 50 rnd. box. The best deal there seems to be on wadcutters.

I know it's not terribly immediate, and it has to be painful not being able to shoot a new gun, but there you have it.

I buy my bulk 22 from wal mart and never in the last 10 yrs have I ever seen one that didnt have any untill last month.
The first wally world I went to the shelves were bare and had no one working the counter. Went to another one down the road the following day, same thing....
I ended up going to 5 of them before I found one who had any bulk packs of any pistol/rifle caliber on hand.
I asked the lady if they were getting out of the ammo business and she said no that almost everything was currently backordered.

Ive been to two others since then and they also were very low on stock.
