I've been wanted to have a general all purpose shotgun for awhile now. I'm basically wanting it for hunting pheasant/turkey/quail/dove and for target shooting. It also makes me feel better knowing I have something at the house for HD.

I was set on a Benellia Nova at Bass Pro but they are out and won't get more in till the middle of this year when the new models come out so I decided to go with a Winchester 1300 Deluxe at Walmart I've been looking at. It's actually the same gun I grew up with that was my dads so I'm comfortable with it.

Have a couple of questions. I've read 00 shot is good for home defense. Right now I just have some 7 1/2 shot I bought at walmart when I got it. I didn't see anything like this. Would bass pro have this shot?

I'm not new to shooting a gun but my dad always took care of the shell purchases and cleaning/oiling etc. Any tips for these things.

Also does anyone who have this have an nice accessories for it. Like a sling etc.

For home defense, I'd recomend a surefire forend, and high brass slugs. Buckshot is good for poorly placed shots, but high brass slugs have pretty much unmatched power as far as shoulder fired weapons go. And yes, the Bass Pro Shops will have all kinds of buckshot.

Just got back from bass pro and didn't see kind of accessories for my gun. Wanted a sling but they only had it for the remington 870. Any idea where I can get things for it?

Didn't see any slugs and I have to get another choke for the slugs correct? All I have is the Winchoke with Improved,Full, and Modified.

I ended up getting the BB shot used for Geese. That's seemed the strongest of the one's they carried.

I have a 1300 Black Shadow. I use slugs with it, but I have sights on my barrel, non-rifled with a cylinder choke. I also would suggest 000 Buckshot for home defense with a modified choke.
