New/Old Tactical Rifle

If barrel length is what makes a rifle "tactical", then I guess this qualifies:

Krag.JPG

M1898 Krag rifle, which has had the original barrel replaced with an 18" one. It was a skosh under two bills, so I took a chance on it.

(I'm going to clean the bolt up well with some solvent and examine the front lug under a strong lens for cracks. )

Worst comes to worst, it'll make a pretty wall-hanger.

Krags have the smoothest action I have ever fondled. I have an original that was issued to my Grandfather in the Army and then left to my father then to me upon his passing. They are interesting rifles.

I guess it would be alright for a tactical rifle as long as your attacker is not armed with a Mauser.

At open-sight ranges, I don't imagine that it matters that much.

I think he may have been to referring to the mauser and other rifles use of evil quick loading assault stripper clips.

I have shot a deer with it probably twenty years ago before it was mine. Since it has passed to me I have not fired it, I think it will remain retired until my son owns it. I can say They do shoot quite nicely, the sites are very precise as well.
