Hello all!

am New here!

Just bought an NP-34 (9mm) with rails, for PKR 53000/ (2 mags, 13 bullets capacity)

I actually went to buy CF-98 but liked this better!

I previously had a Baikal MP442 (Makarov) but lost it when I got kidnapped

Also have an old Churchill 7mm rifle.

Will be posting pics soon!

btw just found out this forum is available on Tapatalk as well!! WOW!!

Don't think they are available here in the States but it looks like a pretty sound concept to copy Sig. I have a Norinco 1911 from the 1990s (when they still imported them here), which has been a solid performer.

I would love to hear more about how your NP34 does once you get it to the range. Any idea if Sig mags are compatible?

i've heard its a clone of Sig 228 and that yes, magazines are interchageble, but I am not sure..

will post pics, maybe then we can decide

Welcome to The Firing Line. You found a good place in the inter-universe.

but lost it when I got kidnapped

I don't remember anybody else ever saying that. :p There is a story there, I can sure tell. I'm glad you are still alive to tell it.

I had to check that reference to PKR. I found it is the Pakistani Rupee, currently at about 100 to the US dollar. So your price was $530 which doesn't seem too bad.

Does China find a good market for guns in Pakistan?

@bart Noir: yes there is a story.. unfortunately in Pakistan, kidnappings are very high!

Was away for a MONTH!

anyways, more on that later!

Yes, in Pakistan, chinese guns and ammo are thriving due to lower prices! (Western guns are usually more expensive.. I think after china, russia is the preferred choice (esp makarov's) and then obviously Glock..

Anyways, My NP34 is slightly new! It has railings AND a manual safety!!

Pics (sorry for the crappy pics, bad camera and sleepy head)

Goodness! It's comments like that which remind me that the things I usually moan about probably aren't really worth moaning about. Puts things in perspective!!

Well, the pistol looks very nice. It also reminds me of a Spanish Star that I once handled.

Havent tried it on the range yet!

I am slightly confused regarding the safety. When I cock the gun (bullet is chambered), and "lock" the safety, the hammer doesnt go automatically back up (like it used to in my Baikal MP442 [makarov]).

Will it fired if I press the trigger in the "safety" position? Have about a week before I can go to the range but need to carry the gun loaded! Cant afford to fire a bullet (even aerially)

Interesting. Welcome!

Are you saying that moving the lever to "safe" doesn't also decock the hammer? That's a little surprising. It's very uncommon to see a gun with a slide-mounted safety that allows "cocked-and-locked" operation. (I can only think of one.)

I think your best bet is just to carry the gun like you would carry a normal Sig -- round chambered, safety off, and hammer down for a double-action first shot. I would need to know a lot more about the gun before trusting that the safety allows safe carry with a cocked hammer and loaded chamber. (Does moving the safety lever rotate a segment of the firing pin out of the way of the hammer?) However, even if that type of carry is possible with this gun, the slide-mounted safety makes using it that way too cumbersome, in my opinion. If the safety doesn't also decock the gun, I would just pretend it isn't even there. A heavy double-action first trigger pull is more than adequate as a safety.

Anyway, cool gun! Let us know how it shoots when you get to the range. And stay safe!

Looks like a safety version! I have seen the ones with the Decocker. Never handled one though

interesting for sure. Looks a lot like a Sig. Big Question of the day: Is the trigger like a Sig?
Second big Question is it as accurate as a Sig? May not know for a while but curios as to how well they copied it.

At first I wondered if it was like the CZ-99 (not THE "CZ"), in that it looked like a SIG but was somewhat closer to a Walther 88. Other sites that have evaluations say it's a vry close copy (clone, in fact) of the P-228. Interesting. IF the price was low enough, you could afford to do some tuning -- if it needed tuning.

I am also glad to hear you are back home safe and have a new gun to protect yourself! Welcome to the forums!

From what I can gather, the NP-34 is a compact P226 type. They are more common in Canada as the United States has had an importation ban on Chinese arms for many years. It seems that they are quite common in Pakistan. They are quoted as being a proven and tested combat handgun in their areas of operation and are considered suitable for police and military use. The frames are forged alloy, the slides are forged steel, the barrels are forged steel and chrome-lined. They don't appear to be finished as well, but that will hardly matter for a fighting gun.

Looks like a fantastic acquisition to me and I'm sure many of us only wish we could have access to more Norinco pistols. They are well loved here but the bane of gunsmiths everywhere as the steel is almost too hard to machine!

How can it be a clone of the SIG P228 if it has a slide-mounted safety?

Good question. Probably not a CLONE in the purest sense of the term. But if everything else is "clone-like" (i.e, interchangeable, etc.), and all they did was add a safety to the slide, it might be a P228 with slide safety added. (The safety might block the firing pin, for example...or simply keep the hammer from going all the way forward if the trigger pressed. it doesn't look like a good C&L alternative. Seems like a strange addition; I wonder if versions are available without THAT feature?)

People call the Tanfoglio-based guns CZ Clones, and they're not clones, either. The term is widely-used with a wider range of meanings than some terms...
