I have a Bushmaster AR that despite what anyone says, I love it and screw whoever has a problem with Bushmaster, me, or my Bushmaster
Anyway, I run an Aimpoint Micro R-1 on it (and I have another R-1 also in use in the fam of firearms). To be honest I got lucky, I bought myself the AR right first day of Dec in 2010 as a post-major-surgery present to myself, I was in need of optics, I had dreams of ACOG and of course no where near the money , I was thinking I needed to save up $600 for an Aimpoint or EOTech, and I knew it would take a bit so I assumed I would decide on what particular brand/model etc. to buy in the months it took me to gather the money ; however, as many know MidwayUSA then bought Aimpoint's entire inventory of R-1's and closed them out for $299 - I immediately bought one upon seeing the post on GlockTalk that they were on sale... then I read someone else say "This is the best optics sale I have ever seen, I just bought two with my money and am begging my wife for the credit card to put two more on it" and I realized it really WAS a great sale and a once-in-a-ever time so I bought two, was broke for a while but hey it was worth it.
Anyway I run the Micro on my AR...which is a real interesting config, a 14.5" bbl with AK-74 muzzle brake.. But it's a 14.5" HBAR which is not common and the brake is more like 3" rather than 1.5" ... no matter. And as we have to have absolutely fixed stocks in NJ, no adjustable/collapsible/folding. etc. it needs to be pinned, my AR is pinned closed because it's a CQB AR and I'm not really big. So it's generally set up as a CQB AR and it has a perfect CQB optic in the Micro...
But I am strongly liking and leaning on this new Nikon P-223 . It looks like the IDEAL little scope for having either an extra capability on your AR or changing your optic. It's ABSOLUTELY Affordable when you consider all the other optical options and let me say this: I have two other Nikon ProStaffs, both 4-12x40mm with a Nikoplex (fine duplex) and BDC (bullet drop compensating dots) reticles... both are AWESOME. I actually got the first 4-12x40mm Nikoplex when I ordered the first R-1, I was going to get one of the closeout Bushnell Elite scopes that MidwayUSA had on sale. I kept going from a decent 3200 to a real nice Elite 4200 scope that were from like $379-$499... and it's for a Rimfire rifle! When i decided on the Aimpoint, I realized I was not getting a $500 scope ESPECIALLY NOT FOR MY Remington 597 lol.
Well as I refocused my search I saw their Nikon ProStaffs on sale, and looked at the 3-9's but the 4-12's were on sale too... instead of $200 they were $160ish... and everyone on the net had good stuff to say, including this very forum which I took a lot of advice from. So I ended up with a Nikon ProStaff 4-12x40mm on my Rem 597 .22, an Aimpoint Micro R-1 on my AR, and another Micro R-1 that has seen time on my M930SPX, my S&W M&P 15-22, etc.
So I am a big fan of Nikon, love their ProStaff's, and I am really loving the fixed 3x P-223. I really am considering adding it to my Bushmaster. I might add it on and rig the Aimpoint on an angle mount, I could try to mount the Aimpoint ON the scope tube, or even go with quick release mounts and switch according to "mission" lol.
But yeah, for $149.99 that 3x scope with a nice little reticle seems like a Nikon ProStaff WIN.
