New muzzloader recommendations?

Looking to add another muzzle loader for hunting and it has been over 10 years since I last purchased. Looks like a lot has changed since I bought my Traditions Pursuit 50 cal.

Any recommendations on some of the newer models? Like to stay around $500 and will look to put glass on but wont shy away from a decent combo deal.

So far I have checked out:
TC ENCORE PRO HUNTER XT - love the thought of a "hand" removable plug.
CVA Optima
TRADITIONS Vortek Strike-fire.

Please...opine. Thanks all.

I have the CVA accura .50 cal and I love it. I gave 300 for it at Scheels 2 years ago.
You can probably find a combo package for around 450 for the Apex.

The best of the "lower priced" models is the T/C Omega Z5. Same action as the high-dollar Omegas but with plain Jane stock, barrel, and breech. I've seen them on clearance after season at Walmart for less than $200.

Savage ML2. Can shoot either black, black subs, or smokeless. Mine will shoot 1.0-1.5" groups at 100 yds with the right combo or powder, sabot, and bullet. Can be had for around $600. Also has accutrigger on it. I've owned half a dozen or so other brands and some were pretty good. None as good as the Savage.

Any of the above are all fine shooters!

It's really too bad most of us don't get to shoot these guns before buying. Just like everything else, it all boils down to preference.

I love the "no tools" breech plug. After my normal swab/clean job between shots, I pull the plug, inspect and wipe it down with a wet patch. This way, I know there is no fouling or patch moisture and my next shot will go with no problems. This can be done even in the field in about 10 seconds. Nice feature!

FWIW

The Savage is the best IMO, but will be closer to $700 dollars. For under $300 I would second the CVA Optima. I really like the speed breech and trigger on them.

Second that Birch..especially when you are buying. The father in law has the Optima (slick looking and shoots nice) and I have shot the Vortek by Traditions at the range (when a fellow shooter was kind enough to let me throw a few down range). Both solid but I have two TCs - one in 308 and another muzzy so I am leaning towards what I know and whats puts meat on the ground. That said, I love hearing the advice - and firearms, unlike my beautiful wife, don't care if you have other models around.

Any other recommendations out there? Thanks again all.
