I have a gotten a T/C Hawken .50 cal this past week. Any thoughts on bullet/powder combinations and weights? I am very new to ml and need advice from more exp. shooters

loads

My best accuracy with my TC comes with 50 gr GOEX 2f,Speer .490 round ball and striped pillow ticking patch(.010").This is a good 25 and 50 yd load. For 100 yds I use 70 gr of powder, everything else the same.I use a spit patch.HTH.

Many Sources !!!

You will find that folks may list many shot-strings that they have developed. In addition to these, I'd suggest taking time to contact Thompson Center and requesting the manual called "Shooting Thompson Center Black Powder Muzzleloading Firearms." This manual wil lilst the optimum load as they see it and a good starting point for you, to find yours. There is a whole bunch of god information, in there as well. There are also countless souces for information, out there, such as books by Sam Fadala and others. ... :)

Be Safe !!!

I would suggest spending an afternoon shooting different powder/patch/ball combinations keeping detailed and copious notes. I went from a rather lackadaisical four-inch group down to 'touching cloverleafs' using this method with my 1:48 twist Lyman Trade Rifle and discovered it likes .495RB, .015 patch and 70gr Pyrodex RS better than anything else I tried.
I was glad I kept the notes though, as time makes you forget your hard work quickly!
