New Mossberg MVP Patrol

The other day I picked up my new Mossberg MVP Patrol in 5.56. I haven't gotten to try it yet, but I'm looking forward to doing that. This seems like a neat little rifle. I got the combo version with the scope attached. It came with quick release rings (nice). So it comes with the rail, adjustable trigger, FO front sight (if needed), flash hider, and it takes AR-15 mags. It shoots .223 or 5.56.

I don't hunt or shoot competitively so this is more or less just a paper punchin' and soda can gun. But my other two rifles are a .22 and a .17HMR so I wanted something a little stouter in case push ever came to shove.

Hopefully I'll get to play with it before too long.

I looked at one a while back. Not too bad but the shop wanted retail plus 10% cause it was a "new model" so I passed. The threaded muzzle and AR mag features are what I was interested in.

If the barrel isn't free floated, you may want to do that and bed the action before you do a lot of shooting

It looks nice, and that heavy barrel contour should help with the grouping

Don't know about bedding, but I ran a Rem Oil Wipe up the barrel between the barrel and stock, so I think it's free floated. ;)

Yeah, I already bought a Pmag 10 AR/M4 mag for it. The Pmag actually feels more robust than the mag that came with the rifle. The fact that it did not have a proprietary mag was a big plus. And a lot of the other bolt action .223s that I was looking at only held 3 or 4 rounds. Ten seems like a satisfactory number for a bolt action.

For some reason, the MVP strikes a chord with me, though I can't quite put a finger on why. The patrol model, with shorter tube even more so. And they make'em in .308 too.

From a negative side, that front fiber optic sight looks fragile as all get out, and would not last long on "patrol" for sure. If I could afford it, I'd put an XS post up there, and figure some way to get the rear blade to match if at all possible.

I don't know whose scopes Mossberg uses....that almost looks like some kind of NcStar....maybe a Simmons too. I'd upgrade there as well.

But, a handy, durable (well, the floppy bolt thing is a wait and see) bolt carbine is a good thing.
